This capital injection was dominated by the other services and mining subsectors, with West Java and Central Papua emerging as the primary geographic hubs for these projects. Beyond the financial figures, the investment successfully absorbed 3,380 local workers, maintaining a steady 5% increase in job creation compared to the previous year. Overall, these results signal robust investor confidence and a significant acceleration in U.S.-backed industrial activity to start the year.

Latin American investment in Indonesia is on the rise, reaching USD 9.5 million in Q1 2026 and creating 290 new local jobs. The data highlights a strong LATAM interest in Indonesia’s property and connectivity sectors, led by investments in Housing, Industrial Estates, and Offices as well as Transportation and Telecommunications. Consequently, Bali secured the top spot as the primary investment destination with USD 5.2 million, while West Sumatra and Jakarta also attracted strategic funding.

In the first quarter of 2026, Canadian foreign direct investment in Indonesia reached USD 176.8 million, maintaining a strong focus on strategic industries.
The majority of this capital was directed into the mining sector. Consequently, the mineral-rich Sulawesi region emerged as the primary destination for these funds, capturing the top three investment spots. Furthermore, despite a slight dip in overall investment volume compared to previous periods, these projects successfully absorbed 527 local workers, representing a 34% quarter-over-quarter increase in job creation.

The Minister of Investment and Downstreaming released the investment realization data for the First Quarter (January-March) of 2026. The realization achieved during this period amounted to USD 30.8 B, or 24.4% of the total investment realization target for 2026 of USD 123.7 B. During this period, the absorption of the Indonesian workforce reached 706,569 people.
The positive achievement in investment realization for the first quarter of 2026 affirms growing market confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects, driven by increasingly progressive policy deregulation, consistent industrial downstreaming, and the accelerated transformation of an integrated digital economy. Amidst global economic pressures, national economic fundamentals remain strong, reflecting the government’s commitment to overseeing downstreaming and strengthening the business climate to foster inclusive, competitive, and sustainable growth.
