Canada Tests Hydrogen-Powered Passenger Planes
In Vancouver, Canada, engineers have conducted test flights of the world’s largest hydrogen-powered passenger aircraft. The modified regional plane runs entirely on hydrogen fuel cells, producing only water v***r.
Unlike kerosene jets, the hydrogen engines are nearly silent and emit no carbon dioxide. Engineers designed lightweight cryogenic tanks to safely store liquid hydrogen at extremely low temperatures.
During its maiden flight, the plane carried over 40 passengers across a 500-kilometer route. It marked the first time a commercial-scale aircraft achieved this feat.
Canada hopes to deploy such planes on regional routes by 2030, reducing aviation emissions dramatically. Hydrogen infrastructure is being expanded in airports to refuel aircraft quickly.
This milestone shows that aviation may soon break free from fossil fuels altogether.

Germany is now farming electricity. Literally. Engineers and scientists at Fraunhofer ISE are teaming up with VOEN Vöhringer GmbH to take solar energy to the next level, by mounting solar panels right above crops.
It’s called agrivoltaics, and it's kind of genius. In one pilot site in Fronreute, cherry orchards now sit under elevated solar canopies that generate up to 420 kilowatts per hectare while keeping the fruit cool, protected from UV rays, hail, and heavy rain.
The best part is that the shade helps reduce irrigation, improves crop quality, and uses existing greenhouse setups, saving big on construction and emissions. Smart software ensures both crops and energy production thrive without stepping on each other's toes.
Early results show yields are just as good, if not better. This dual-harvest approach is catching on fast across Europe and Asia, with Germany and Japan leading the charge.

Germany is pioneering agrivoltaics (also called agrophotovoltaics), a system where solar panels are installed above farmland, allowing crops to be cultivated below while simultaneously producing renewable energy.
This dual-use model is especially advanced at Fraunhofer ISE in collaboration with VOEN Vöhringer GmbH.
One notable pilot site is in Fronreute, where cherry orchards have been equipped with lightweight, elevated solar panels. These panels:
Produce up to 420 kW per hectare,
Shield crops from heat, UV rays, hail, and rain, reducing damage,
Create a cooler, regulated microclimate, which often improves crop quality and lowers irrigation needs,
Rely on existing greenhouse infrastructure, cutting construction costs and emissions.
Smart software is also used to optimize energy production without reducing crop yields. Early data shows that yields are largely unaffected or even improved in some cases.
This approach is gaining momentum across Europe and Asia, with Germany and Japan leading the field. The dual harvest system represents a major stride in sustainable agriculture and decentralized energy generation

Amazing.
Researchers at Osaka University have invented a brand-new type of plastic that completely dissolves in seawater—in just a few hours.
And unlike regular plastic, which sticks around forever and harms marine life, this stuff vanishes without a trace. In fact, when composted, it actually improves soil health.
It’s made using natural ingredients like starch and cellulose nanofibers, which are not only biodegradable but also totally non-toxic. So whether it ends up in the ocean or your backyard compost pile, it’s doing something good.
Dr. Taka-Aki Asoh, the lead scientist on the project, says this could be a huge leap forward in creating sustainable packaging and cutting down on global plastic waste.

Mother Nature's surprise
Scientists have discovered a unique black fungus, Cladosporium sphaerospermum, thriving in Chernobyl’s radioactive reactor by absorbing gamma radiation for energy. This radiotrophic fungus uses melanin to convert radiation into chemical energy, much like plants use sunlight. Researchers believe it could help clean up radioactive waste and even protect astronauts from cosmic radiation in space. 🌍🚀

Mushrooms being tested for cleaning up contaminated soil
In the garage of a vacant farmhouse at the Marathon County landfill, mushrooms are growing in contaminated soil.
