New York City's Smallest Prairie

05/20/2017

The new Mayor DeBlasio said he was going to take out traffic islands...but I did not believe that meant established, traffic calming islands with trees and plants that provided a small piece of nature in a sea of asphalt. This is a very sad state of affairs.

Just when I thought NYC Pocket Prairie could get no worse...and it was bad. We now have this!!

Then..on Wednesday, October 23, oddly and sadly, someone decided the Pocket Prairie was not to their liking. The Prairie got pulled out by someone and rearranged, changed to a different kind of garden. I now wave the white flag of resignation and surrender. The deer, the buffalo and I will now need to find a new place to roam.

Very tough week for NYC Pocket Prairie. The week started out with the newly planted grasses getting settled in for their fall display and winter hibernation...here is the Pocket Prairie on Monday, October 21st.

We have a Pocket Prairie Poached Plant Problem. Life is tough for a Pocket Prairie in New York City. Someone pulled out a patch of the New England Aster flowers. It's possible to think of this act as a high compliment but truthfully it's REALLY annoying and sad. I will try and get replacements in soon. The bare soil looks...well, bare!

Oh...We are so close to having the first big, beautiful flower from the native New England Aster flowers in the Pocket Prairie. A splash of nature and color in the streets of New York City.
