The Amerigo Vespucci, the oldest ship in service with the Italian Navy and one of the most beautiful sailing vessels in the world, is crossing the Atlantic for the North America Campaign 2026 — a 156-day, 12,151-nautical-mile voyage making stops across the United States this summer.

📍 Baltimore: June 25–29
📍 New York City: July 4–8
📍 Boston: July 11–14

For Italian Americans, this is more than a ship. It's a living symbol of the country our families came from — still sailing, still carrying that spirit across the ocean.

New York City, 1939. Fiorello La Guardia, the colorful and beloved Mayor of New York, stands soaked and exhausted after personally overseeing the rescue of a trapped firefighter.
Still wearing his formal overcoat now drenched and covered in dirt, La Guardia holds the firefighter’s helmet in his hand. Earlier that night, he had rushed to the scene when he learned a fireman was pinned under a fallen beam. True to his reputation as “The Little Flower,” La Guardia didn’t just direct from safety — he stayed on scene for hours, helping coordinate the difficult rescue until the injured firefighter was freed.
This powerful photograph captures one of the most human moments in the life of one of New York’s greatest mayors: a man who never hesitated to get his hands dirty for the people of his city — whether they were citizens or the brave firefighters who protected them.
A rare and unforgettable image of leadership, compassion, and solidarity in the midst of crisis.
