Please join us for our annual spring tidy-up at the Lemon Creek Purple Martin Colony on Monday, April 6th, from 10am-2pm. Tools and equipment will be provided. The martins will be here soon, so let's give them a warm welcome!

Up to 5 adults martins have been seen at the colony this week. Come down and check out these amazing birds while they start building this year's nests!

This years team of volunteers after tidying up the colony for the soon-to-be returning martins. Thanks to NYC Parks for supplying wood chips and installing temporary fencing!

The Staten Island Museum's Director of Science, Ed Johnson helps fill a load of wood chips to be spread around the base of the colony. Wood chips help keep the area free of weeds which makes the martins feel more comfortable by keeping possible predators at bay.

Jr. Landlord, Anthony Ciancimino took this photo of a young male martin at the colony last week and found out that the bands identify this martin as being born in southern Florida last year, but now he calls Staten Island his home.
