We celebrated an unforgettable spring reception as we close out Women’s History Month! We honored three powerhouse women trailblazers whose leadership, courage, and impact continue to inspire our community every day; Deputy Mayor Julie Su, Speaker Julie Menin and Kris Kohler of Mason Tenders. And, it is always great to have our founder and President Emerita, Mrs. Virginia Kee to encourage us to reach higher heights and thank our supporters for standing with our community.

Big shoutout to New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Senator Brian Kavanagh, Assemblymember Grace Lee, and Council members Linda Lee, Shekar Krishnan and Shirley Aldebol for attending and presenting the awards to our honorees. Grateful to all members and supporters, especially our District Leader Virginia Lee and member Larry Seto, who joined us to uplift their stories and recommit to building a future where women lead, inspire, and break barriers.

UDO is proud to endorse Zohran Kwame Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for Mayor.

Chinatown still hasn’t fully recovered. Our small businesses have weathered crisis after crisis — from 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy to the devastation of the pandemic — and yet, they continue to struggle.

When COVID hit, Asians and Asian-owned businesses were unfairly targeted, and many never bounced back. Now, new tariffs threaten to deal another blow to our mom-and-pop shops that have already endured so much. The burdens of affordability and a big housing crisis are weighing heavily for Chinatown residents and small businesses.

We need leaders who truly listen to our community and who will fight for fairness, inclusion and real investment in Chinatown’s recovery. We need leaders who will make equity and safety real priorities, not just talking points.

Our Chinatown has always been resilient. But resilience alone is not enough! We deserve support, protection, and opportunity to thrive again. We hope as mayor, Zohran Mamdani will continue his visits to Chinatown to listen and build on policies that make our community, our city more affordable, safe and livable.
