President James Haynes III of USIVO would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who helped place wreaths on Veterans Memorials across Staten Island. This meaningful tribute would not have been possible without the support, time, and dedication of so many volunteers.

A very special thank you to Steve Gross for personally handcrafting every wreath. Your effort and generosity helped make this tribute possible.

Thank you also to those who traveled throughout Staten Island to place the wreaths:
Joanne Nolemi and her anonymous driver, Cristian Gonzalez, Steve Gross, VaNesa Tavitian (RT2NY), John Nappi (RT2NY), and the Richmond County Daughters of the American Revolution.

Your commitment to honoring our veterans and preserving their memory is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Our Lady of Pity Church hosted a solemn Memorial Day and Wreath Laying Ceremony, paying tribute to the ultimate sacrifices of our brave Veterans. Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to Matt Scamardella for championing this noble tradition, uplifting the spirit of reverence for those who have served. The wreath was laid by Rolling Thunder members Mike Raimondi and Bob Nappi.

Not every wound is visible. And not every conversation is easy.

But connection matters.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, DVS is bringing people together for Chat & Chew: Mind Matters – Veterans & Healing, a virtual conversation exploring trauma-informed care, emotional wellness, recovery, and the importance of creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Featured guest Dr. Elizabeth Meeker of the New York State Trauma-Informed Network and Resource Center will join moderator Dr. Lessie Branch — DVS Special Assistant for Community Engagement, award-winning author, scholar, and advocate — for a thoughtful discussion focused on healing and understanding.
