Global Community Charter School Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a PreK-8 charter school in Harlem.

Rigorous Curriculum: Based on the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in that the curriculum is theme-based and focused learning experiences where students with diverse backgrounds and languages become inquiring, knowledgeable, and supportive of each other.

• Multiple Forms of Evidence: Performance assessments including projects, portfolios, multimedia presentations, state mandated tests, and written tasks inform instruction and measure progress toward learning goals.

• Integrated Arts: The arts are important areas of learning in the PYP. Students will learn the disciplines of visual arts, music and drama, as well as learning about the arts (the skills and processes involved) and through the arts (artists, perspectives, themes and ideas using the arts).

• Multi-lingual Environment: Since GCCS will focus on recruiting English Language Learners, home language will be supported and sustained along with learning and improving in English language skills.

• Parent Representation: GCCS develops our Parents As Partners Association (PAPA) made up of representatives from each classroom to serve on a Parent Advisory Team (PAT) that meets with school leaders to address issues and concerns that arise as the school year unfolds.

to our Elementary School students for their wonderful presentations for Hispanic Heritage Month mid-month. They celebrated in song and dance, offered Fun Facts about Latin America, created artwork including sugar masks ~ even danced out of that morning assembly on October 16. That gathering also honored students who demonstrated the IB Learner Profile attribute "Principled," and gave a shoutout to the dedicated Paraprofessionals at GCCS.

Today the GCCS Middle School (MS) Community Circle focused on Hispanic Heritage Month. Students were celebrated for attendance, and for demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attribute of Caring. MS Counselor Ashley Ruiz-Rothman was recognized for demonstrating that attribute as well. Also showcased: the Band, Drum and Choir Ensembles, led by MS Music Teacher Lisette Santiago.

At GCCS, students complement their classroom studies by learning various disciplines of visual arts, music and drama. Earlier today, GCCS held its 4th Grade Move Up Ceremony at The Harlem School of the Arts, celebrating as our 40-plus 4th graders become Middle School 5th graders for the next school year. The morning event included the presentation of awards and certificates, a student performance ~ and lots of affirming applause by families, and GCCS teachers and staff. Congratulations to all!
