U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary - New York City Division

It's with great sadness to share that our dear friend and mentor Auxiliarist Edmund "Ed" Donovan passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Auxiliarist Ed Donovan has been a Coast Guard Auxiliarist for over 43 years. His last position he held was FSO-MS and Telecommunications. We have all been inspired by him. May he rest in peace.

The heartfelt sympathy of the entire District is extended to his family, friends, and shipmates in the midst of the great loss that they and the District have sustained. Ed's name will be added to the Division and District “IN MEMORIAM” page, where he will join a list of fellow Shipmates who have crossed the Bar. So they may always be remembered.

On Monday, December 1st, Division 5 hosted its last meeting of the year/holiday gathering with a full house! We were honored to have Special Guests, our DIRAUX CDR Buck, OTO BOSN Grimm, and DCAPT Mooney in attendance. We also have members from throughout all 5 flotillas, including 13 cadets from SUNY Maritime who are members of Flotilla 05-02 and the AUP program!

After the business meeting, all guests enjoyed delicious food, music, and fellowship! We have had a fantastic year, and we look forward to the great things our members will accomplish in 2026!

It is with deep regret and sorrow that the Division announces that Auxiliarist John J. Kiernan of Flotilla 014-05-11, (Upper Manhattan Flotilla), Crossed the Bar.

John joined the Auxiliary on September 28th 2004, and proudly served as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for just under 21 years. During his Auxiliary Service, John held staff positions in both the elected and appointed chains on both the Flotilla and Division levels. John was the current Communications and Materials officer for Flotilla 05-11.
