The 2026 Celebrating Home & Community Gala was a night to remember!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our amazing lineup of sponsors whose generosity helped us to raise a record amount – over $3.9 million – in support of Breaking Ground’s outreach and housing programs across New York City.

This year, we were thrilled and humbled to honor New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin for her leadership and commitment to affordable housing, and Bruce Beal and Frank Monterisi of the Related Companies who have dedicated their careers to creating affordable homes for New Yorkers from all walks of life.

We were delighted to have many of our great partners in City and State government join us, along with a strong showing from New York City’s real estate and housing finance industries.

Beautiful day, beautiful building. Today we celebrated the official opening of Sutphin Senior Housing & Clinic in Jamaica, Queens with our great partners at the Community Healthcare Network!

The building is Breaking Ground’s second Passive House certified residence, a rigorous energy use standard that aims to push toward net zero emissions in the operation of residential and commercial buildings.

Sutphin provides 173 supportive and affordable homes for older adult New Yorkers who are exiting homelessness or need an affordable apartment, paired with onsite supportive services provided by Breaking Ground.

The building also features a state-of-the-art 15,000 square foot Federally Qualified Health Center owned and operated by the Community Healthcare Network, providing world-class care to tenants of the building and the wider Jamaica community.

After celebrating its groundbreaking in June, Sparrow Square continues to take shape, with great progress on all four buildings that are part of Phase I! This includes two newly constructed permanent supportive and affordable residences, along with two state-of-the-art replacement shelters for single adults.
