I followed the tracks of wolves in the North Cascades to discover the remains of this black bear the wolves had been feeding on. Even though the bear was long dead, her bones told me a great deal about her life besides just what species of animal. For instance she was an old bear who had done a lot of feeding on the cambium of trees over the course of her life! Join and I to learn how to read stories like this from bones you find in the field yourself!

Kim Shelton examines the leg bones of a mountain caribou in the Selkirk mountains during our field work for the Mountain Caribou Project. Being able to identify whose bones these were, where on the body they were from, and who had been chewing on them helped us interpret the scene we found in this mountain meadow.

I was honored to be invited and able to head out for a strenuous day in the field with wildlife biologists from the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation Fish and Wildlife Program to track down and document Canada lynx kittens! Exciting news here and amazing work they're doing alongside Conservation Northwest
Our CCT F&W program confirmed the presence of wรกpupxn (lynx) kittens in the Kettle Range. This momentous news is the culmination of years of work by a dedicated group of biologists committed to returning wรกpupxn to this area.
On November 2, 2021 the first male and female lynx were released on the Reservation in an effort to re-establish a self-sustaining population of lynx to the Kettles. For the past 4 years Tribal biologists have been tracking GPS collared lynx in order to document patterns of dispersal, habitat selection, home range establishment, mortality and denning attempts. Now for the first time in over 40 years, live lynx kittens have been confirmed in the Kettle Range. Welcome home wรกpupxn!
