Often harassment and discrimination goes unreported for fear of retaliation, or that nothing will be done. The EEOC’s 2016 Study of Harassment in the Workplace report found that only 30% of individuals who experienced harassment talked with a supervisor, manager, or union representative and only 6-13% file a formal complaint at work.

A new report from Cornell University, finds 1 in 10 have been sexually harassed in the workplace, or 3.9 million people statewide. The report suggests this is systemic, and not just isolated to a few ‘bad apples’ and recommends comprehensive programs that go beyond standard legal compliance.

Connecticut joins a growing group of states requiring sexual harassment prevention training. The new legislation requires companies of all sizes to offer sexual harassment prevention for all supervisors. Employers with at least 3 employees must provide training to all employees, not just supervisors by Oct. 1, 2020.
