Mental health shapes how young people learn, build relationships, cope with challenges, and grow. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re helping raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations around youth mental health.
An estimated 1 in 7 U.S. youth ages 6 to 17 have a mental health disorder, reminding us just how important early support, access to care, and trusted community resources truly are.
Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and cared for.

As we observe Memorial Day, we take a moment to honor and remember the courageous service members who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice, bravery, and dedication will never be forgotten, and we recognize the lasting impact they have had on generations of families and communities across our nation.

Something magical rolled into Harlem this week! 🎶
Lincoln Center Theater’s “Wheels of a Dream” truck stopped by our Dunlevy Milbank Center, filling the air with tunes from the hit Broadway musical Ragtime. As the songs played, our kids shared their hopes and dreams for the future.

This AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and lasting contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
This year’s theme, “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together,” highlights the impact of collective strength, shared stories, and building deeper understanding across communities.
At Children’s Aid, we’re grateful for the many ways our AANHPI colleagues, families, and community members help shape our programs, enrich our culture, and advance our mission every day.
It’s almost beach season, and NYC beaches officially open May 23! 🌊☀️ As families and young people get ready to head to the water this summer, we want everyone to stay safe, have fun, and keep water safety top of mind.
Children’s Aid is proud to be part of both the NYC Lifeguard Interorganizational Task Force to Prevent Childhood Drownings and the NYS Commission on Childhood Drowning alongside partners like NYC Parks and NYC Public Schools.
Shoutout to our partners at NYC Parks and NYC Public Schools for creating this fun and informative video filled with important swim safety reminders, including only swimming when NYC Parks lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During National Foster Care Month, we’re continuing to call for stronger transportation support for students in foster care across New York City.
Recently, Dr. Brenda Triplett, our senior director of educational achievement & partnerships, testified on the urgent need for transportation solutions that help students in foster care remain in their schools and maintain stability during times of transition. Too many young people are still experiencing long delays in receiving school bus service, forcing them to miss school or switch schools altogether.
We’re proud to stand alongside 25+ organizations urging NYC to invest $3 million for NYC public schools and ACS to provide interim transportation support for students waiting for essential bus service.

This National Nurses Week, we’re honoring the incredible nurses across our school-based and community health centers who help children stay healthy, supported, and ready to learn.
By caring for young people where they are—in schools and in their communities—our nursing staff helps remove barriers to care and creates trusted spaces for children and families. Their compassion, expertise, and dedication make a lasting difference every single day.

Interested in staying civically engaged, then becoming a poll worker is a great way to make an impact!
Who can apply?
✅ Must be 18 or older
✅ 17-year-olds may qualify if their school district participates in a program under Education Law Section 3207-a
✅ Interpreters do not need to be registered voters
📍 Poll workers are assigned within the county where they live. New York City residents will be assigned within the five boroughs.
