NYC native, 10+ years in District 2. Community advocate focused on clean sidewalks, safer streets, housing over vacant lots, and smarter policing.
Running for City Council to deliver practical solutions for the neighborhood we call home. Gail Schargel is running for New York City Council District 2 under the Clean Safe Street Party. A registered Democrat, Gail has lived, worked, and raised her family in Lower Manhattan for more than two decades. As a proud resident of neighborhoods including the Lower East Side, East Village, Kips Bay, Grame
rcy, and Murray Hill, she understands both the triumphs and the challenges our community faces every day. Born in New York City, Gail earned her BS in Accounting from Lehigh University and built her career as a CPA in Real Estate Finance. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she has long dedicated herself to service: formerly a board member of BSA, a NYC charter school, and currently serving on the board of a Land Trust and as a member of the Sanitation Foundation. Her years of volunteer work and advocacy reflect her deep commitment to making District 2 cleaner, safer, and stronger. Today, Gail lives in the district with her husband, Bill, and their dog, Parker. As an empty nester and proud mother, she cherishes her time walking the neighborhood, visiting local shops, supporting the arts and culinary scenes, and joining public space clean-ups. To her, civic leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about showing up, listening, and working every day for the people who call this place home.
