The New York City Bar Legal Referral Service has waived its $35 initial consultation fee for all legal issues until further notice, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“As we have seen with other disasters and crises – nationally and locally – once health, safety, food and shelter become somewhat less immediate issues, legal issues follow in the next wave,” said George Wolff, Executive Director of LRS.

IBA - IBA urges UN Member States to recognise, uphold and protect the role of lawyers 07/06/2020

The City Bar is proud to join bar associations from around the world in this joint call for action, urging UN Member States

"to fully recognize, uphold and protect the vital role that lawyers and the legal profession play in upholding the rule of law, promoting and protecting human rights, in accordance with the Basic Principles [on the Role of Lawyers]"

Lawyers around the world are increasingly victims of attack in retaliation for performing their everyday professional functions, often by their own governments.

The 30th Anniversary of the Basic Principles is a perfect time to reaffirm their importance as a framework for protecting legal professionals the world over.

Our Environmental Law Committee submitted comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed action, “Review of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter,” which would retain the current NAAQS without revision. The Committee urges the EPA to withdraw its proposal and promulgate a more stringent standard that will protect the public health and welfare, allow for an adequate margin of safety, and consider research regarding the link between COVID-19 and exposure to fine particles, and related impacts on vulnerable populations.
