U.S. service members, mariners, city officials, and first responders gather for the 9/11 Boatlift 20th Anniversary Tribute on the Hudson River, Sept. 10, in Battery Park City. On Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a convoy of merchant ships, tugboats, and ferries to evacuate more than 500,000 stranded and injured people from the seawalls of lower Manhattan. We honor the service and sacrifices of all those who responded to the call in the wake of the attack on the World Trade Center. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by 1st Lt. Demond Glover)
