On this Indigenous Peoples Day, La Casa de Don Pedro honors the history, cultures, and ongoing resilience of the Indigenous people in our community.

We recognize that the work of building equitable communities must include an honest reckoning with that history, and a commitment to centering the voices and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples in conversations about justice, land, and community.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and at La Casa de Don Pedro, mental health is something we take seriously every single day.

El Barrio Wellness Center, is our response to a critical need in our community. The Center is a bilingual mental health clinic built from the ground up to serve Newark's immigrant and low-income families. Counseling in English and Spanish. Sliding-scale fees. No immigration status required.

Because everyone deserves access to care that understands their language, their culture, and their life. If you or someone you know needs support, we are here.

Honoring Our Hispanic Heritage - In 1972, a group of Puerto Rican activists in Newark's North Ward refused to let their community go unserved. They built something. They named it La Casa de Don Pedro, after one of the most fearless advocates Puerto Rico has ever produced.

Pedro Albizu Campos was a Harvard-trained attorney, the president of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, and a man who spent years in federal prison rather than stop fighting for his people's dignity and freedom.

His name is on our door because his conviction is in our mission. 54 years later, we are still here.

This October, La Casa de Don Pedro stands with every person in our community who has faced, is facing, or has supported someone through a breast cancer diagnosis.

Early detection saves lives. We encourage everyone, especially those in underserved communities where access to screening can be a barrier, to talk to their doctor about mammograms and make their health a priority.

You are not alone. Our community stands with you.

In Newark's Lower Broadway neighborhood, only 15 percent of residents own a car. Yet too many families live too far from Broad Street Station to walk to it.
Transit access is not a luxury. For Newark's working families, it is the difference between opportunity and isolation.

La Casa de Don Pedro supports expanding affordable housing near transit, because where families live determines everything else.
