United Community Corporation In 1964 United Community Corporation (UCC) one of the oldest non-profit community action agencies in the City of Newark opened its doors.

Guided by service, compassion, and fairness, UCC's mission is to assist low-income, disadvantaged and at-risk individuals and families, including seniors and youth, to become self-sufficient and self-supporting while enhancing their quality of life. As a call to action under President Lyndon B. Johnson's "War on Poverty" campaign, UCC became the designated anti-poverty agency for the City of Newark. UCC was tasked with the mission of assisting the City's underserved population by providing services to help them gain economic equality.

⭐️ Success Story Spotlight ⭐️

UCC congratulates our Hope Village II guest, Lon I., on graduating from the Outpatient Program at New Harmony Behavioral!

After enrolling in the dual diagnosis program in January 2026, Lon demonstrated a strong commitment to his personal growth and well-being. With 19 years of sobriety as a foundation, he transitioned into outpatient services, where he participated in weekly individual and group counseling sessions. Through hard work and determination, Lon learned healthier ways to manage triggers, express his emotions, and build resilience.

Today, Lon is moving forward with greater confidence, stronger self-esteem, and the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges in a positive way. His journey is a powerful reminder that growth is always possible and that investing in yourself can lead to meaningful change.

We’re proud of you, Lon!

UCC was honored to host Kate Whitman Annis, Executive Director of Devils Youth Foundation, and Shasa Revell, Grants and Community Manager, for a tour of the The Market at UCC. Their visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand how the Foundation’s support helps strengthen our food assistance programs and advances our broader mission of moving individuals and families from dependency to self-sufficiency. We are incredibly grateful for the Devils Youth Foundation’s partnership and investment in our community, and we look forward to continuing this meaningful work together to create lasting impact for Newark families.
