We have made it to week 2! Quyana for all the donations of food that we continue to receive. We appreciate it greatly!

PARENTS OF ATHLETES 8th GRADE AND UP- SEE BELOW

HELP US FEED OUR COMMUNITY ELDERS, PLEASE
Elder lunch begins October 1. We need a community volunteer(s) to help to update the paperwork to get all our Elders enrolled into the program for this school year. Please reach out asap if you can assist with this. Funding was cut greatly to this program this year. There is no longer a paid position to get the Elders to school or deliver them home lunches. Please let me know if you can volunteer one-five times a week to deliver Elder lunches in Newhalen and/or Iliamna. This is the main way we fundraise to raise money to feed our kids school lunch. Please let me know if you can help.

September 9th: Back to School Event at the Newhalen School from 1-3pm. This event is open to the community.
September 14th-18th: Family Health Resource Representative, Random will be visiting. Random will be at Nilavena Clinic on the afternoon of September 14th to assist community members with: Medicaid, SNAP, Medicare, Senior Benefits, Veteran Affairs Benefits. Random will also be traveling to the ILR village sites on September 15th.
September 21st-25th: Dr. Harding/Registered Dietician will be at the clinic.Call Nilavena Clinic to get your student(s) sports physicals scheduled.

Welcome back to school! We had an amazing opening day yesterday with 98.3% attendance and zero late kids. WTG students and families! Let's keep it going!
Today our student attendance is currently at 96%. Please encourage your students to be here each and every day that is possible. We only have 152 days of school total this year and it goes so fast!
Zoom in and read these astounding facts about attendance below from Sarah's beautiful Power Up Your Attendance bulletin board. Remember: Nothing replaces being in class on time, each day.

JOB OPENINGS- SUBSTITUTES and HEAD COOK
We are hiring for substitute workers. Please let us know if you would like to fill out an application.

We are also hiring for a head cook. Pay starts at $19.72/hour.
Please reach out to Ed or Evelynn if you would like to be considered for the position on or before 9/8/2026 at 4pm.

Who is ready to go back to school next week?!?
Our new and returning teachers are arriving this week and will take part in their inservice training. We welcome them to Newhalen School! 🤗

ENROLLMENT FOR 2026-2027
- open enrollment will be available at Newhalen School Wednesday 8/26 evening from 4:30-6:30pm and Thursday 8/27 from 9:30am-1pm.

RETURNING STUDENTS
- please bring your child and a copy of their current immunizations. You can obtain these from Nilavena Clinic or your preferred health care provider

SPORTS PLAYING KIDDOS
- students grades 6th and up playing sports need to make an appointment at Nilavena Clinic to schedule a physical ASAP. Please bring the completed forms to enrollment.

NEW STUDENTS
- please bring your child and a copy of their current immunizations. You can obtain these from Nilavena Clinic or your preferred health care provider
- copy or original birth certificate
- tribal ID

FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
First Day Kindergarten to High School = September 1
Preschool will begin September 8

Bring in your kiddos for free breakfast the first day of school and take first day of school pictures in front of our new murals painted by Stephanie Wood.

Free breakfast and a modest lunch will be served every school day to all enrolled kiddos. The lunch menu for September and school year calendars will be available at enrollment.

It’s never too early to get a jump start on getting back into the swing of things for school. See the flyer below regarding learning apps accessible to your LPSD kiddo.

School starts for students on Tuesday, September 1 in exactly 30 days.

Be sure to schedule your school physicals now and don’t wait until school starts. This is required for all kiddos 6th grade and older to travel for sports and activities.

If you have a new student attending this year or if you have a student who attended last year that won’t be attending this year, please let Ed or Evelynn know. We will be looking at class sizes soon.

Parents/guardians of sports playing kiddos 6th grade and up-
Call Nilavena Clinic today and schedule your sports physical. Don’t wait until the school year begins. Bring the completed forms with you to enrollment which will take place the end of August at Newhalen School.

All parents/guardians- we will need current immunization forms from the clinic. Please bring these to enrollment with you.
If you student is new to Newhalen School, we will also need copies of your students
birth certificates and tribal ids (if applicable).
