🫑 We're halfway through CT Grown for CT Kids Week!

Today's featured lunch brings together school-made stuffed peppers filled with beef and rice, topped with local marinara sauce. Students can also enjoy locally roasted beets and savory black beans with local red peppers. 🍅

From the farms growing our ingredients to the kitchen teams preparing each meal, it takes a community to bring fresh, locally sourced food to our schools.

👏 Let's give a big shout-out to our hardworking cafeteria staff and Connecticut farmers for making this week possible!

🍆 Fresh, local ingredients are taking center stage!

It's Day 2 of CT Grown for CT Kids Week, and today's menu features school-made eggplant Parmesan with local marinara sauce, served with green beans and garlic sourced from Connecticut farms. 🌱

Scratch cooking takes teamwork, dedication, and plenty of preparation. We're proud of our cafeteria staff for creating meals with care and helping connect our students with the local agriculture that makes our communities special.

🌾 Every meal is another reason to celebrate our local farmers!

This week (Oct 5–9), our school cafeterias are celebrating CT Grown for CT Kids Week with an incredible, five-day farm-to-school lunch menu!

Our amazing cafeteria staff has been working tirelessly behind the scenes—developing brand-new recipes and preparing these delicious meals from scratch. Scratch cooking for the entire district is a massive undertaking, and we are so proud of their hard work and dedication to our students!

By sourcing these fresh ingredients locally, we are reinforcing our commitment to Connecticut agriculture—keeping your hard-earned money right here in our communities and supporting our local family farms.

Today's lunch features BBQ beef meatloaf made with local beef, school-made mashed potatoes, and a sweet citrus apple slaw featuring fresh Connecticut apples and cabbage. 🍽️

❤️ Join us in celebrating the incredible people behind every meal — our school nutrition staff and Connecticut farmers!

Our “Tattoo the Teacher” Student Council fundraiser came to an exciting end this morning with a school assembly full of laughter as students watched some of our willing teachers get covered in temporary tattoos. After three days of fundraising, the teachers proudly wore the results of everyone’s efforts -- now the question is, how long before the tattoos come off?

During this week’s Safety Patrol workshop, Lauren and Kayla from Newington Youth Services hosted an engaging workshop called Just Journal. Students learned about different types of journaling and the many benefits journaling can have for mental health, self-expression, and reflection. We were excited to have more than 35 fourth grade students attend! Each student received a journal, pen, and stickers to take home and continue their journaling journey. Lauren and Kayla also shared information about the programs and opportunities available through Newington Youth Services at the middle school. Thank you to Newington Youth Services for such a meaningful and fun experience for our students!
