A solution that has so far been rejected by Republican legislators is a substantial increase in state funding for the district schools in all our communities. $4,351 is obviously not enough; that's why the legislature gives Charter Schools $9,180 per student and they don't even provide transportation or Special Ed services. $7,356 is the figure Judge Ruoff arrived at when looking at all the costs incurred. The tens of millions of dollars on the Education Freedom Accounts is new spending because nearly all the students were never in our public schools. These are the Choices your Republican majority legislators and Governor make.
The legislature objects to the courts telling them what to do so they continue to fail on this important issue. Business tax cuts, the repeal of a 100 year old Interest & Dividends Tax, a $20M revenue loss for a .05% Meals & Rooms Tax cut and they needed a tax amnesty to get the $103M in unpaid business taxes to balance the budget. Say NO to Republican candidates and Vote No on Question 2.

New Hampshire’s tax cap ballot question has kicked off fierce debates and avid campaigns across the state, vaulting an issue normally reserved for spring meetings — school district budgets — into an already electric midterm election season.

In case you were wondering about Question 2: "Republicans acknowledge Trump and high fuel prices as challenges, but they view the tax cap question as a tool to motivate voters in a tough political environment."

Top-of-the-ticket races may get most of the attention, but the New Hampshire House, Senate and Executive Council are also in play on Tuesday.

Forget about the busses. "Many of the volunteer canvassers were affiliated with Turning Point USA, the conservative group founded by Charlie Kirk. They included students who had flown from Texas to canvas in New Hampshire."

Candidates fanned out across New Hampshire this weekend in a final burst of campaigning ahead of Election Day. NHPR reporters were in the field too.

This is about more than the current ballot question.

This is about more than the current ballot question.

There is absolutely no question that we must lower our property taxes here in New Hampshire. However, our State government wants us to believe that we are the problem, that our local communities have created the burdens of high property taxation in our towns and cities, and that we must fix it in a....

Downshifting is not a myth.

"During the last major recession in 2011, the state legislature eliminated the 35 percent it paid for the retirement of all public workers including educators. One year when the federal COVID rescue and relief money was flowing into the state, lawmakers approved a one-time 7.5 percent contribution of $28 million, but have never funded it again."

"The state and federal government have never fully funded their share of special education costs, and those services have grown more and more expensive for school districts with again local property taxes picking up the difference."

"The state legislature also eliminated its requirement to share revenue with cities and towns and instead set it at 30 percent of the Meals and Rooms tax and distributes it on a per-capita basis."

Come Tuesday everyone who turns out to vote will have an opportunity to either cripple their local school district or finally bring property taxes under control depending on your viewpoint.

I'm voting Yes on question 1 and voting for Doug Marino - just in case.

Did you know NH has an elected state official with no office, no staff, no significant duties, and a $100 stipend? 🤔

More details on this from candidate Doug Marino, who is running for this position:

“Prior to 2011, The Register of Probate was responsible for various administrative duties related to the probate court system. In 2011, the legislature merged the Probate Court system with the Circuit Court, creating the Circuit Court's Probate Division. As a result of this reorganization, the administrative responsibilities that once fell under the Register of Probate are now handled by court clerks and other employees within the Circuit Court system.

Today, the Register of Probate has no office, no staff, and no significant responsibilities under the law; yet, the position still exists under the New Hampshire Constitution and receives a $100 stipend.

Vote yes on Question 1 to remove this outdated position from the New Hampshire Constitution.

So why am I running? I'm running to be your backup option just in case Question 1 fails. If elected, I will not accept the $100 stipend and will continue to advocate for eliminating this office, which is essentially defunct.

My special pitch to Republicans: How many opportunities will you get to vote for a Democrat, and then fire that Democrat on the same ballot? If you dislike me this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you potentially.”

- Doug Marino, Democratic nominee for Rockingham County Register of Probate

The account turned Commissioner of Education Frank Edelblut was instrumental in the creation of the EFA program with a 3rd party administrator the Children's Scholarship Fund still stonewalling an overdue performance audit. No longer Commissioner, he sits on the board of the organization benefiting from this unique arrangement.

The Children’s Scholarship Fund NH is holding up work on a performance audit of its management of the Education Freedom Account program, a legislative committee was told Friday.
