“No two calls are ever the same, but each one matters.”

This month, we’re going “Beyond the Ambulance” with Paramedic Taylor Chavis. Her primary role is responding to 911 calls, assessing patients and providing advanced life support in high-pressure situations.

“This includes everything from cardiac calls, medical emergencies to trauma and critical transports,” Taylor shares. “I also provide comfort and guidance to patients and family as they try to navigate difficult times.”

Stationed at Fire Headquarters on Turkey Creek Road, Taylor works the night shift on Medic 5 and has been with Coweta County Fire Rescue for 2.5 years.

“My favorite part of the job is showing up for people on what is sometimes the worst day of their lives and make it even just a little better,” Taylor explains. “Whether it’s providing life-saving care or simply being a calming presence, knowing I can make a difference in that moment keeps me passionate about what I do.”

The unpredictability of the job keeps Taylor sharp. No two calls are the same, requiring her to adapt quickly, think critically and trust her training. She finds it extremely rewarding to build trust with patients and their families in such a short time, while still making a lasting impact.

Motivated by a desire to help others, Taylor was inspired by a fellow paramedic to enter the field. For her, being an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professional means staying calm under pressure, advocating for patients and being someone others can rely on in difficult moments.

“It also means maintaining the integrity of the department and helping to influence the next generation of emergency medical professionals,” Taylor highlights.

Above all, Taylor values her team and appreciates her coworkers for their support and pride in what they do.

“Although this job is challenging, it’s about taking care of our community while also taking care of each other,” Taylor shares.

Coweta County Fire Rescue proudly participated in the County’s flagging event at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Newnan, commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4.

The event was a true celebration of community spirit, as Fire Rescue personnel joined residents and County staff in a hands-on tribute by placing flags in a display recognizing America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Events like this give our team a chance to connect with the community we serve in a meaningful way beyond emergency response.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible! In addition to the “250” display of American flags, be sure to check out the patriotic buntings decorating the Historic Courthouse in celebration of America’s 250th year.

As temperatures rise and more people head to the Chattahoochee River, it's essential to prioritize safety. Kayaking and rafting can be fun ways to enjoy the river but currents can become dangerously strong, especially after heavy rains.

Congratulations to Battalion Chief Russell Brewer! 👏 On June 3, he was awarded the Georgia Chief Officer Certification at the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs (SEAFC) and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs Conference (GAFC) held in Savannah, Georgia.

This prestigious certification recognizes fire service professionals who prioritize ongoing education and professional development.

We're hiring for a Fire Inspector/Investigator!

Key responsibilities include:
🔍 Supporting the Fire Marshal with daily fire-prevention activities, public outreach and safety initiatives
🏗️ Evaluating plans for new construction, ensuring compliance with fire codes and recommending improvements
🗓️ Scheduling, conducting and documenting inspections of existing buildings to identify hazards and verify compliance with Federal, State and County Fire Codes
🔥 Inspecting and testing fire protection systems in commercial buildings throughout construction and upon completion; performing re-inspections as needed

We're hiring for the position of an Emergency Medical Technician - Advanced (EMT-A)!

Key responsibilities include:
🚑 Providing basic to advanced life support services that are within the EMT-A scope of practice
🩺 Delivering patient care in the back of a medical unit during transport, while ensuring timely completion of the patient care report
🚨 Participating in medical responses, including stabilizing patients and performing extrication
🚗 Driving and/or operating various medical apparatus
🏥 Facilitating transport from local hospitals and to out-of-area facilities

On May 27, 2026, members of the Coweta County Fire Rescue Special Operations Team conducted rescue training exercises on the Chattahoochee River. As we prepare for the busy summer season, when the river sees increased activity from boaters, anglers, kayakers, and swimmers, our team remains committed to maintaining the skills and readiness needed to respond when help is needed most.

Through ongoing training and preparation, Coweta County Fire Rescue is ready to serve and protect our community both on and around the water.
