Through GEAR UP activities, college and career exploration events, and financial aid assistance, Waldport High School is helping students discover their options and plan for their futures.

Congratulations to Newport Middle School’s Chris Martin, who was named 2025-26 Oregon’s School Garden Coordinator of the Year through the Oregon Harvest for Schools Awards!

Great school gardens are built by dedicated leaders who inspire students, bring people together and create hands-on learning opportunities. Under Chris’ leadership, the NMS garden has become a place where students build skills and confidence, connect with their community, and learn about Oregon agriculture and natural resources.

Mr. Martin credited district leaders, Nutrition Services staff, Scott Barker and former coordinator Sara Gibson for supporting LCSD’s school gardens and educators.

“Students benefit from school gardens in a myriad of ways, and it truly takes a village to keep them flourishing,” he said.

Congratulations, Mr. Martin, and thank you for creating meaningful learning experiences that will continue to benefit students for years to come!
