This is the last update from our traveling crab, Shelvis. We last saw him drifing on ice at a museum near Mombetsu. We finally caught up with him at LeTao, which is a super famous cheesecake boutique in the area. He then ventured over to bowling with his host family and Momebetsu Sister City friends. He introduced us to a traditional japanese dish and a cold refreshing Sapporo! Thanks Shelvis, for all the memories and sharing. We'll see you when you get back home. Totemo tanoshikatta desu! It was very fun.

92 years of sausage and kraut can't be wrong. Come join us for a beloved Oregon classic!

On November 7, we are taking a day trip out to the historic town of Verboort, Oregon, as they celebrate the 92nd Annual Verboort Sausage & Kraut Festival.

Spend the day immersed in the rich history and mouthwatering aromas of handmade sausage, simmering sauerkraut, and small-town community spirit.

The ($38 non-members / $33 members) trip fee covers your transportation and a legendary, traditional Dutch meal featuring:
• Famous handmade Verboort sausage & sauerkraut
• Mashed potatoes & gravy, applesauce, salad, green beans, and a dinner roll
• Your choice of two slices of pie! 🥧

Beyond the Meal: Once we've enjoyed our feast, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the festival grounds at your own pace. Stroll through the Craft Bazaar, browse the Country Store and Fancy Work booths, check out the Quilt Raffle, stop by the B**r Garden, and stock up at the fabulous bake sale!

🧊The Coolest Adventure Yet! 🦀❄️

Shelvis took a break from the warm ocean currents today and traded his shell for some serious chilly thrills at the Drift Ice Museum!

One of the attractions is a "Severe Cold Experience Room": A room chilled to -15°C to -20°C containing tons of real drift ice.

How it works: Right before you enter the chamber (which drops anywhere from -15°C to -20°C / 5°F to -4°F), you grab a provided coat from a rack and put on gloves.

The Wet Towel Trick: In addition to keeping your hands and body protected from the frozen air and real drift ice blocks, the staff will usually hand you a small wet towel. Once you step inside and wave it around, it freezes solid into an ice sculpture within a few seconds!

We look forward to hearing where Shelvis goes next!

Another page from Shelvis's adventure to Japan: even traveling crabs know good food when they see it! 🎸🦀 Shelvis found the ultimate spot today, kicking back on top of a case of spectacular-looking pie-shaped crabs.

*Edit: I meant crab-shaped pies, but honestly, 'pie shaped crabs' is the kind of fun energy my Friday needed. We’re sticking with it now. Send butter*

Can you blame him? They’re looking mighty tasty. 😋
