What happened at Soroptimist of Monroe Co.’s opening meeting

Soroptimist International of Monroe County marked the start of a new year of service and community engagement during its opening meeting on Sept. 24, bringing members together for fellowship, organizational updates and recognition of a founding member’s milestone birthday.
The gathering included dinner, information about the Monroe Philanthropy Playoffs and a business meeting, according to a community announcement. Members also used the event to reconnect and reaffirm the organization’s mission of supporting women and girls through education, training and opportunities for economic empowerment.

Attendees recognized Ilah Mae Brancheau, a founding member of Soroptimist of Monroe County, following her recent 99th birthday celebration.
Club members highlighted Brancheau’s longstanding involvement with the organization and her role in helping establish its local presence.
The birthday recognition celebrated a legacy of service, friendship and dedication that members said has helped shape the group over the years, according to the announcement.
