Wednesday evening, South Pend Oreille Crews simultaneously responded to a significant motorcycle accident, an illegal burn, and a working structure fire. Unfortunately, the home was too far involved prior to arrival to save, but extension into tress and brush was quickly stopped. DOZENS of SPOFR career and volunteer staff mobilized to handle all incidents and we couldn't be more proud to serve this community!

SPOFR leadership and commissioners have jointly decided to not make any personal endorsements, but we do encourage you to vote! We believe the fire service is apolitical as a whole and do not want to create any division or question in your fire department. Remember, a drop box for ballots is at Station 31 in Diamond Lake.

SPOFR crews mitigated a working structure fire in the City of Newport this morning, receiving calls just after 8am. Per Assistant/Operations Chief Jennifer Krusing, no injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the garage. She credits the fast arrival of Engine 11 coming from Newport and a quick interior attack by two FF/EMTs and one FF/paramedic to saving the structure. As always, we are proud of a large SPOFR response and want to thank our neigbors for assisting!

All are invited at 1100 at Newport/SPOFR Station 11 (Union and 2nd St, Newport) to remember the 25th anniversary of the day that changed our world.

This will be a short, respectful ceremony as this is not about any of us. This is about those who went up knowing they weren't coming down, and the thousands of innocent lives lost on a sunny Tuesday morning in September.

LT Jeff Littlefield will be leading this event. If you do attend, please leave S Union Ave open for fire apparatus and park in the adjacent WaFD Bank lot.

This event has shaped our nation, emergency services, and the world in ways that will be felt for generations. Let's all take a moment to remember the day that still feels like yesterday and the lives still impacted.

Approximately 3:30pm yesterday, SPOFR was alerted to a significant hazardous materials situation in the City of Newport. On-site staff did an excellent job evacuating the occupied two-story medical facility as SPOFR units arrived within minutes.

SPOFR evaluated multiple patients exposed to the toxin and ultimately transported three in stable condition. We worked closely with regional and state expertise to identify and mitigate the HAZMAT threat.

This incident necessitated a significant response for a lengthy incident but we remained backfilled and fully available for additional calls. Thank you to WA State Ecology for their expertise/advice and Pend Oreille Emergency Management for their availability for any needed assistance.

SPOFR is proud to be an "all-hazards" fire district; we have the capability and partners to mitigate more than only fire and EMS calls. Pictured is Lt/Paramedic Marie Balak, who is in her element as a certified HAZMAT technician, trained to the highest national certifications. Crews including Chief 301, E11, E31, C61, M11, M31, and C32 operated for over 3 hours and will continue monitoring throughout the next couple of days.
