♻️ NEWTON COUNTY AMNESTY DAY — FREE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
Have old paint, household chemicals or other hazardous waste to dispose of? Take advantage of this one-day event, FREE to the public!
📅 October 31, 2026
⏰ 8 a.m.–noon
📍 Newton County Coliseum (Show Barn)
615 Coliseum Drive, next to the Driver License Center
✅ Accepted items include: Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, ammonia, antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, bleach, pool chemicals, gasoline, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, fertilizers, lighter fluid, paint thinner, wood finish, fluorescent bulbs, electronic waste, used motor oil, propane cylinders and water seal.
❌ Not accepted: Explosives, radioactive materials, materials containing PCBs, syringes, am******on, laboratory chemicals, prescription drugs, leaking containers, containers larger than 10 gallons, compressed gas and gas/air cylinders.
🛞 Tire recycling is available at the county landfill, with a maximum of 20 tires per citizen. No businesses.
🚫 ABSOLUTELY NO COMMERCIAL WASTE.

🚨🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR NEWTON COUNTY 🔥🚨

Effective October 16, 2026, through November 2, 2026

⚠️ By order of the Newton County Board of Supervisors, a countywide burn ban will go into effect on Friday, October 16, 2026, and remain in effect through Monday, November 2, 2026.

Due to the dry conditions and increased fire danger, residents are urged to take this burn ban seriously. Outdoor burning can quickly get out of control, threatening homes, property, and lives.

🚒 Over the past several days, fire departments throughout Newton County have responded to numerous grass, brush, and debris fires. These incidents place additional strain on our emergency responders and put their safety at risk.

❤️ Please remember that the majority of our county’s firefighters are VOLUNTEERS. These dedicated men and women leave their jobs, families, and personal responsibilities at a moment’s notice to protect our communities. Every preventable fire means more time away from their loved ones and another unnecessary risk to their safety.

We ask all Newton County residents to:

🔥 Refrain from outdoor burning during the burn ban.

⚠️ Use extreme caution with anything that could produce sparks or start a fire.

🚒 Report any uncontrolled fire immediately by calling 911.

❤️ Help protect our firefighters, neighbors, homes, and communities by doing your part to prevent unnecessary fires.

To all of our volunteer and career firefighters throughout Newton County, THANK YOU! Your dedication, sacrifice, and willingness to serve do not go unnoticed. We sincerely appreciate everything you do to keep our county safe!
