🍀 OUR 4-H WHY: ANNE 🍀

Finally, in our 4-H “Why” series, it's me! 👋💚

When I look back at my time in 4-H, it’s hard to separate who I am today from the experiences I had as a 4-Her.

4-H helped me find my voice and figure out who I was. It gave me the space to try new things, discover my passions, and practice leadership and other skills in a safe place where it was okay to learn, grow, and sometimes fail.

It even helped shape my future career. I chose my college major because of a passion I discovered through 4-H.

And, of course, there’s one pretty important part of my 4-H story… 💍

I met my husband at Rock Springs 4-H Camp, then officially started following him around the beef barn a few years later! 😂

My favorite project was Buymanship, but I also explored clothing and construction, visual arts, photography, foods and nutrition, and plenty of other opportunities along the way.

Looking back, 4-H gave me more than projects and activities. It gave me confidence, friendships, passions, leadership skills, a career path, and a husband. 😂💚

Now I get to come full circle and help create those same kinds of experiences for the next generation of 4-Hers.

That’s my 4-H why. 🍀

🍀 OUR 4-H WHY: ALEX 🍀

Next up in our 4-H “Why” series is Alex, our Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent! 🌱💚

4-H is the ultimate family sport!

To Alex, 4-H is about developing character, building confidence, and preparing young people to become the next generation of leaders, families, and community members.

And, obviously… the beef project was his favorite! 🐄

Some of his favorite memories include sleeping in the barns at the county fair and building friendships with kids from all over the county, state, and even the country.

Those experiences are a big part of what makes 4-H so special—and why Alex is passionate about helping today’s 4-Hers create those same memories and build skills that will stick with them for life.

That’s Alex’s 4-H why. What’s yours? 🍀

🍀 WHY 4-H?

There are probably a million different answers.

Maybe it’s the friends you make.
Maybe it’s the first time you're giving a speech in front of a crowd.
Maybe it’s showing an animal you raised.
Maybe it’s finding a project you absolutely love.
Maybe it’s the volunteer who believed in you.
Maybe it’s the trip you’ll never forget.
Maybe it’s learning that you’re capable of more than you thought.

Or maybe… It’s all of it. 💚

For over 120 years, 4-H has been helping young people in our community, empowering youth to develop leadership, communication, and workforce-ready skills through volunteer-supported learning experiences.

And we’re just getting started. 🍀

Tell us in the comments: What does 4-H mean to YOU?

Current member? Tell us.
4-H parent? Tell us.
Volunteer? Tell us.
Alumni? Definitely tell us! 👀

Let’s fill the comments with all the reasons we 💚 4-H!

🍀 OUR 4-H WHY: BRITYNE 🍀

Next up in our 4-H “Why” series is Brityne! 💚

4-H gave Brityne the confidence to find her voice—and, more importantly, the courage to use it.

Through public speaking, presentations, and sharing what she was learning, she discovered how much she loved communicating with others and telling the story of agriculture. 🌱🎤

That passion eventually turned into a career, and she truly believes so much of who she is and what she loves doing today started in 4-H.

That’s the amazing thing about 4-H. Sometimes the skills you build, the passions you discover, and the confidence you gain as a 4-Her follow you much further than you ever expected.

That’s Brityne’s 4-H why. 🍀💚

🍀 4-H DOESN’T HAPPEN WITHOUT PEOPLE. 🍀

Behind every 4-H meeting, event, project, trip, show, workshop, and community service project is a whole crew of people saying:

“Yep. I can help.” 💚

Our volunteers give their time.
Our parents cheer from the sidelines.
Our teen leaders step up.
Our community partners open doors.
Our educators make connections.
And our supporters help make opportunities possible.
This National 4-H Week, we want to say THANK YOU to every person who helps make 4-H happen.

🙌 56 volunteers
❤️ 1,202+ volunteer hours

You might not always see everything you do, but our kids feel the difference.

Drop a 💚 in the comments for a 4-H volunteer who has made an impact on you!

🍀 OUR 4-H WHY: BONNIE 🍀

We’re wrapping up National 4-H Week by sharing a few of our own 4-H stories! Before we were Extension agents, some of us were 4-Hers ourselves—and those experiences helped shape who we are today.

First up is Bonnie, our Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent! 💚

Looking back, 4-H gave Bonnie so much more than projects and activities. It helped her find her voice through public speaking, build confidence, and develop meaningful relationships and friendships that shaped who she is today.

Those experiences inspired her passion for helping others and ultimately led her to a career in Extension.

Now, Bonnie gets to help create opportunities and experiences for the next generation—and that’s pretty special. 🍀

This is Bonnie’s 4-H why. What’s yours?

Stay tuned as we hear from more of our office’s 4-H alumni and learn a little more about why 4-H matters to them. 💚
