Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard has been appointed to the Sheriff’s Association of Texas (SAT) legislative committee. The SAT Legislative Committee members work on behalf of sheriff’s across the state to see that state bills affecting Sheriff’s Offices, jail operations and public safety are properly considered at the capital.

Sheriff Havard stated, “It is a great honor to advocate for Sheriff’s across the state; but it’s a much bigger honor to represent Newton County in Austin to make sure your voice as a taxpayer is heard when it comes to your law enforcement.”

On Monday, October 5, 2026, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the theft of two Polaris Ranger UTVs in the Newton area.

On Wednesday, October 7, the owner recovered one of the stolen Polaris Rangers in a wooded area off County Road 3008.

During the investigation, the owner discovered that someone was using a fake Facebook account to attempt to sell the second stolen Polaris Ranger.

Newton County Jail passes inspection with zero deficiencies

On Tuesday, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards arrived unannounced at the Newton County Jail for an annual inspection. The inspector conducted a thorough review of the facility, along with the documentation and records related to jail operations and staff.

I am proud to announce that the Newton County Jail passed with ZERO deficiencies!

Our Jail Division is led by Captain Destiny Simmons, who goes above and beyond and puts in countless hours to ensure our facility operates at the highest standards. Her dedication, along with the hard work of our entire jail staff, makes achievements like this possible.
