Newton Police Department's Blue Christmas Program is now accepting nominations!

The holiday season can be a difficult time for families facing financial hardships, and we want to help make it a little brighter.

Funded through generous donations from NPD officers and our community, the Blue Christmas Program provides holiday gifts for children and families who could use a little extra help. Families selected will also receive food donations through the Harvey County Holiday Helpers Program.

If you or someone you know could benefit, please complete our online nomination form:

-Nomination Form: https://bit.ly/BlueChristmas2026

-Want to help make the season brighter?
Cash, check and toy donations are welcome at the Newton Police Department.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY “BOO’S”- PART 2

The Halloween “boo’s” continue! Here are a few more things to NOT do while you’re out collecting those treats:

🚫 Don’t eat candy, treats or drinks that have been opened or appear tampered with. When in doubt, throw it out.
🚫 Don’t lose touch with your parents or caregivers. Make sure they know where you are and keep your phone handy if you have one, or stay close to someone who does.
🚫 Don’t go somewhere without letting someone know where you’re headed. Stick with your group and communicate if plans change.
🚫 Don’t put yourself in dangerous situations just for a Halloween thrill. There’s plenty of fun to be had without taking unnecessary risks.

Have fun. Stay together. Stay aware. And remember: the only “boo’s” we want to hear are the ones coming from the ghosts!

Officer Wilbeck successfully completed training at KLETC and graduated as a certified officer. She is now in field training for around 14 weeks gaining valuable knowledge and experience.

Help us congratulate Officer Wilbeck for her hard work! Pictured beside her is Lieutenant Yoder and Corporal Dobbins.

School spirit, building relationships, and a little Halloween fun from yesterday. 🎃

SRO Garver, SRO Walls, and SRO Jeffries joined in on the fun and showed up in full costumes yesterday. Because being a School Resource Officer is about more than keeping our schools safe. It’s about being present, building trust, forming meaningful connections with students, and being an active part of the school community!

One thing is for sure… these three understood the assignment. 😎

Officer Garver had a special visitor today at Sunset Elementary, and we’re not sure who was more excited about this meet-and-greet! This student came prepared with the uniform, badge, shades and plenty of confidence.

Officer Garver, you might want to keep an eye out for your future partner!

We love moments like these that remind us how important it is to build connections with our youngest community members. One day we might even see them right beside us!

Not all “boo’s” are bad… but these ones we want you to avoid! 👻

Newton Police Department teamed up with Coney the traffic cone for a few Halloween safety “boo’s” to keep in mind before heading out for a night of tricks, treats and fun:

🚫 Don’t walk alone, especially after dark. Safety comes in numbers!
🚫 Don’t wear dark clothing that makes you difficult for drivers and others to see. If your costume is dark, add reflective gear, glow sticks or a flashlight.
🚫 Don’t walk in the middle of the street. Use sidewalks whenever possible and cross streets at designated crossings.

DO have fun and safely enjoy an evening of Halloween festivities! Part 2 will hit social media Friday, so stay tuned!

We are still accepting donations for the Holiday Helpers initiative, where we have a goal of feeding 250 families for the holidays. Can you help us?

First responders from Harvey County plus surrounding counties pack food boxes each year for families in need to help make the holiday times a little less stressful.

Every donation, big or small, helps us purchase food for local families through Dillons, which generously provides a 10% match on every donation.

-Donations can be dropped off at the Newton Police Department or Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, both located at 120 E. Seventh St.
-Checks can be made payable to First Responder Holiday Helpers.

Together, we can make the holiday season brighter for local families!

Proud to share one of our own was chosen for Employee of the Year.

We all make big impacts in big ways, and today specifically, we celebrate the impacts Officer Stan Kurtz has across our community.

✨Congrats, Stan! ✨

Employees of the Year Spotlight Number 3: Officer Stanley Kurtz

Stan goes above and beyond every day, not only in his work as a Newton, KS Police Department warrant officer, but also in the way he supports his coworkers and connects with the community.

Known for his strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to help others, Stan understands that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. When a coworker was going through a difficult time, he brought flowers to brighten their day and remind them they weren't alone.

Stan extends that same compassion to the community, including during his summer bike patrols through City parks. He takes time to stop, listen and check in with people, recognizing that a simple conversation can make someone's day a little brighter.

His dedication, humility and genuine care for others make him a valued teammate and a role model for fellow officers. Whether tackling a challenge at work or offering a little encouragement to someone who needs it, Stan consistently demonstrates what it means to serve others.

Join us in congratulating Officer Stan on being named an Employee of the Year!
