Join us at Brookside Farm for Game of Logging Levels 1 & 2, a two-day, hands-on chainsaw safety and woodland skills training led by Bill Girard.

The Game of Logging is a nationally recognized training program designed to help participants develop safer, more efficient chainsaw skills through demonstration, instruction, and hands-on practice in the field.

Sunday, November 8, 2026 — Level 1
Sunday, November 15, 2026 — Level 2
8:00 AM sharp–4:00 PM

Brookside Farm, 33 Society Road, Niantic, CT
$300 for both days
Lunch included
www.givebutter.com/GOL
space is limited to 10 registrants.

Level 1 focuses on chainsaw safety and precision felling, including personal protective equipment, chainsaw reactive forces, pre-planning the fell, open-face felling, bore cutting, and understanding hinge wood.

Level 2 builds on those skills with chainsaw maintenance, filing and sharpening, limbing, bucking, spring-pole cutting, and additional felling practice. Participants will also learn to buck the trees cut during the training into firewood and may take firewood home if they wish.

Participants who complete both days will receive a Certificate of Completion for Game of Logging Levels 1 & 2. You don't have to, but you may, take the wood you cut (day two you will learn how to cut firewood)

Bring your own chainsaw if you have one and would like to train with it. A chainsaw can be provided if needed.

This is an active, outdoor training conducted in the woods, so participants should be prepared for uneven terrain, variable weather, and a full day outside.

Only 10 spots are available. Once the class fills, a waiting list will be maintained.

Questions? Call Annah at 860-333-8793.

Help Brookside restore its ecosystem while building practical chainsaw and woodland-management skills.

Just what we didn't know we needed to hear..."For what it's worth and without exaggeration, I've seen more pollinators in the little circle garden than I've seen at almost any other location we've been to in CT. Good work is happening at Brookside!" - Colin Bennett, Swamp Yankee
EarthCare

Brookside is slowing down on the outside for the season, but stay tuned for more opportunities to connect with the environment, culture, community and history soon.
