Jessamine County Fiscal Court is accepting applications for the position of Planning Technician with the Jessamine County Planning and Zoning.

Under the supervision of the Planning Director, the Planning Technician performs a variety of administrative, technical, and field-related planning and zoning duties. Responsibilities include responding to public inquiries regarding development proposals, applications, and procedures; coordinating and preparing for Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Ordinance Update Committee meetings; conducting zoning and subdivision ordinance research; reviewing land use and development applications for completeness and compliance with applicable regulations; reviewing building permit applications for zoning compliance; and preparing technical reports, staff research, meeting packets, minutes, mailings, and public notices. The position maintains files, scans documentation, creates and updates databases, utilizes the iWorq software system, interprets maps, and tracks continuing education requirements for the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment. Additional duties include assisting the Planning Director with special projects, long-range planning research, and program analysis; providing support to the Building Inspector and Zoning Compliance Specialist; assisting the Office Manager with research, mailings, and relief coverage as needed; and performing other related duties as required. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is preferred.

A cool breeze is in the air in Jessamine County, and the Courthouse is ready to celebrate Halloween!

The building is decked out in decorations, from scarecrows and pumpkins to creepy crawlies, with the bell tower glowing in purple, green, and orange. All around the lawn and along Main Street, decorated pumpkins add to the festive spirit. We’re ready for Halloween and getting into the spooky season!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 31, for a night full of Halloween fun for the whole family!

Spooky Time on Main – Downtown Nicholasville 6:00–8:00 PM Enjoy this free, family-friendly event featuring two live performances of “Thriller” and plenty of spooky fun!

Treats on Main – Downtown Wilmore 6:00–7:30 PM Hosted by Wilmore Parks and Recreation, this event offers families a safe and festive trick-or-treating experience.

Below is the agenda for the upcoming Fiscal Court Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th.

The Jessamine County Fiscal Court meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month (and the fifth Tuesday when applicable). Meetings are held at 4:00 PM in the Circuit Courtroom, located on the second floor of the Jessamine County Courthouse. All Fiscal Court meetings are open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend.

Tuesday, November 10, is the last Pop-up Driver Licensing Program event the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is offering in Jessamine County for 2026.

Pop-up licensing events are held at the Jessamine County Public Library (600 S. Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356) on.
Services offered:
- Upgrade to a REAL ID license
- Request an 8-year license if you are due to renew
- Update your name or address
- Renew your CDL
- Services requiring testing are NOT available at popup events and should be handled at a regional office or through the Kentucky State Police.

The popup events are only for Jessamine County residents. Appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made online at Drive.KY.gov. Appointments will open two weeks before the day of the event at 8 AM. If an appointment-holder cannot make an appointment, please cancel it. This will open the appointment up for others.

Planning for the future of Jessamine County and the City of Wilmore takes thoughtful coordination, careful review, and a clear vision for responsible growth. The Jessamine County–City of Wilmore Joint Planning Department provides Planning & Zoning and Building Inspection services throughout the City of Wilmore and unincorporated areas of Jessamine County, helping guide development, administer zoning regulations, issue permits, and support the community’s long-term needs. This month’s Department Spotlight, we are recognizing the hard work this department does.

Why is Planning & Zoning Important?

• Developing comprehensive plans to guide long-term growth, land use, infrastructure, environmental impacts, and community services
• Establishing and administering zoning regulations that define how property can be used
• Reviewing zoning permits, development plans, and proposed subdivisions
• Issuing building permits for new construction, renovations, and other projects
• Reviewing requests for rezoning, variances, and conditional uses
• Addressing violations of building codes and zoning regulations
• Providing information to the public and facilitating meetings and hearings for community input

What do they do?

Planning and Zoning helps provide a framework for how Jessamine County and the City of Wilmore grow and develop. By reviewing proposed projects and administering local regulations, the department helps ensure development meets established requirements.

The team also considers the community’s long-term needs, including infrastructure, transportation, environmental impacts, and public services. Through public meetings and hearings, residents also have opportunities to learn about proposed projects and provide input.

Kentucky counties’ Planning & Zoning offices operate under KRS Chapter 100, which provides the framework for local planning and zoning.

The department works with property owners, developers, residents, and local officials on a wide range of projects—from individual building permits to subdivisions, zoning changes, variances, and conditional uses.

Jessamine County Fiscal Court is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant with the Jessamine County Attorney’s office.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for opening the office to the public each day and ensuring the office is properly closed at the end of the business day. Maintains office equipment by coordinating with and maintaining knowledge of appropriate service providers. Assists with tracking vacation and other out-of-office time for staff members. Answers incoming phone calls, directs calls to the appropriate personnel, and greets members of the public and official visitors, assisting them with accessing the various functions of the County Attorney’s Office. Handles correspondence and other written documents for the County Attorney and prepares and maintains the County Attorney’s schedule.
