We want to see the public engaged in local government, including running for local office. And we can support candidates that are aligned with our vision. If you or someone you know is considering running in April, now is the time to reach out.

These are just some of the boards that will have positions up for election in April:

Niles-Maine District Library
Niles Elementary School District 71
East Maine School District 63
Maine Township High School District 207
Niles Township High School District 209

The next local election is on April 6, 2027. Candidates can start collecting signatures to get on the ballot August 25. Petitions must be filed between November 16 and 23. Email us at [email protected].

Ask Rep. Mike Kelly to support HB1429 because we need real solutions, not more punishment. You can email him at [email protected] and use this template.

Dear Rep. Kelly,

I am a constituent and live at.....

Across the state, local governments are passing ordinances that allow police to fine or arrest people simply for being homeless, creating even more barriers to finding housing and steady work.

Illinois now ranks second in the country, only behind California, in the number of cities adopting these policies. Rather than punishing people for their circumstances, communities should be investing in real solutions like housing and supportive services. Please support Rep. Olickal’s bill, HB 1429, to expand the Homelessness Bill of Rights and provide support, not punishment, for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Living outside exposes people to extreme weather, violence, illness and instability. Adding fines or jail time does not resolve those conditions.

Huge win last night for our community and for the power of local action. So inspiring to see members of Niles United, Vision Morton Grove, Spotlight Park Ridge, and Action Ridge together for a common goal.
