We work with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), an agency that guides our clients in selecting an Employment/Vocational Provider who offers services aimed at developing skills, relationships, and independence.

These providers deliver a variety of employment services and training opportunities, including the Community Work Experience assessment where individuals have the opportunity to work briefly at a local business.

This experience helps identify their strengths and support needs, enabling informed recommendations for future planning.

Children with developmental disabilities experience deep empathy but may struggle with traditional social cues or knowing exactly how to express their good intentions. We teach kindness to our students by:

1. Clearly defining what it means to be kind, such a sharing a toy, waiting for a turn, or waving hello.
2. Using visual aids to help children identify how a person is feeling.
3. Using role play to practice social skills during calm moments.
4. Validating how they naturally care for others in their own unique way.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Employees with developmental disabilities are often exceptionally reliable, dedicated, and hardworking, with talents and interests that align perfectly with jobs in the community. Our SSAs do a great job matching the individuals we serve with jobs perfect for them. When we're willing to , our whole community becomes stronger.
