You may have seen the large plume of smoke on the southern horizon today, it was a large controlled burn at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal.

Mountain View Fire Rescue was one of a few agencies invited to participate in the mitigation project to remove dry grasses in the nature preserve.

Prescribed burns like this are very helpful for several reasons, including dry vegetation mitigation and training for wildland firefighters.

Thanks to our friends at Rocky Mountain Arsenal and US Wildland Fire Service for having us.

Today is World Restart a Heart Day, a reminder that knowing CPR can make a life-saving difference when someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest.

In an emergency, you don't have to be a medical professional to help. Calling 911 and starting CPR right away can help keep someone alive until emergency responders arrive.

Mountain View Fire Rescue offers CPR classes at our headquarters and can also bring training to businesses, schools, and community organizations. It's a great way to help your employees, students, coworkers, and neighbors feel more confident and prepared to respond when it matters most.

You never know when someone around you might need help. Learning CPR could help you save a life.

Interested in CPR training for your group? Reach out to MVFR to learn more about our classes and available options: www.mvfr.org/cpr-first-aid-classes

Every now and then Mountain View Fire Rescue needs to swap out the vehicles we use on a daily basis. That’s the case with our new logistics van, which is a Ford Transit and takes the place of a much older Ford Econoline.

This new vehicle will allow our logistics specialist to complete her tasks in a much more efficient manner. It has a more comfortable environment and includes a climate controlled cargo area. This new van allows Mountain View Fire Rescue to deliver fire & EMS supplies to stations across the district allowing our emergency apparatus to stay in service and respond to calls.

You’ve watched it take shape from the outside. Now it’s time to come on in!

Join Mountain View Fire Rescue for an Open House at our new Station 15 in Erie on Thursday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. Take a tour of the station, meet the crews who will be serving the community, and get an up-close look at the apparatus, including Engine 215.

Station 15 is also now home to our Technical Rescue crew, relocated from Station 1 to provide a more central location within the district. A new crew and engine will be moving into Station 1 as part of the change.

We’re excited to open our doors, show you around, and introduce you to your new neighborhood fire station. We hope to see you there!

Take a look around your house right now, how many things are charging?

Your phone. A laptop. Maybe a cordless drill, e-bike, scooter, tablet or a few toys that somehow always seem to need a charge.

Most of the time, we plug them in and don't think twice. But where and how we charge lithium-ion batteries matters.

Charge devices on a hard, flat surface and keep them away from anything that can burn. Use the manufacturer's charger or an approved replacement, and don't use batteries or charging equipment that are damaged or showing signs of swelling, overheating, leaking or other problems.

And if something doesn't seem right, don't ignore it.

Fire prevention isn't always about doing something complicated. Sometimes it's simply paying attention to the things we do every day.

Mountain View Fire Rescue wants you, your family and your home to stay safe.

It’s Fire Prevention Week, and this year we’re talking about something most of us do every single day: charging our devices.

Phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, scooters and other battery-powered devices have become part of everyday life. But lithium-ion batteries can create a serious fire risk when they are damaged, improperly charged or used with the wrong equipment.

A few simple habits can help:
Use the charger designed for your device. Charge on a hard, flat surface. Keep charging devices away from beds, couches and other things that can burn. And unplug them when they’re fully charged.

A little extra attention while something is charging can go a long way toward keeping your home and family safe.

This Fire Prevention Week, let’s charge into fire safety together.
