👮‍♂️🔎 Evidence Technician Experience at Ridgewood High School

Det. Pichardo and Ofc. Deutscher were invited to Ridgewood High School to speak with students about the role and responsibilities of an Evidence Technician.

On the second day, students had the opportunity to put what they learned into practice by processing their own mock crime scene. They participated in photographing the scene, collecting and documenting evidence, dusting for latent fingerprints, and collecting DNA evidence.

The students were excited, engaged, and eager to participate throughout the experience. We are very pleased to have been invited back and grateful for the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with the next generation.

The Norridge Police Department was proud to participate in a coordinated nationwide effort targeting Organized Retail Crime.

Working alongside law enforcement agencies and retail partners across the country, this initiative resulted in more than 1,900 apprehensions and arrests and the recovery of thousands of stolen products.

Organized retail crime impacts more than just retailers, it affects employees, shoppers, businesses, and the communities we serve. Operations like this demonstrate the importance of communication, intelligence sharing, and strong partnerships between law enforcement and the private sector.

Norridge PD remains committed to working with our local businesses and our law enforcement partners to identify, investigate, and hold accountable those involved in organized retail theft.

The results of the second National Organized Retail Crime Blitz were announced by the National Retail Federation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Cook County Regional Organized Crime Task Force and the Los Angeles Organized Retail Crime Association. Today, September 17th, local public safety agencies and school partners are conducting Operation Safe Return, a coordinated training exercise designed to strengthen preparedness and response across our communities.

The exercise will begin at 9:00 AM and will take place at:

• Giles School
4251 N. Oriole Ave., Norridge

and

• Ridgewood High School
7500 W. Montrose Ave., Norridge

Multiple jurisdictions are participating, so residents may see squad cars and fire equipment from neighboring communities. There will also be temporary traffic and access restrictions in the area.

There is no active threat to the public. This is a planned training exercise.

Please do not call 911 to report activity related to the exercise. However, as always, if you are experiencing a real emergency, call 911.

Exercises like this allow our agencies and schools to train together, coordinate resources, and be better prepared when it matters most.

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, we will be conducting Operation Safe Return, a scheduled Active Threat Safety Exercise at Giles School, 4251 N Oriole, Norridge, IL 60706.

This exercise will involve multiple jurisdictions and public safety agencies, so residents may notice an increased police and fire presence in the area, including squad cars and personnel from neighboring communities. There may also be temporary street closures nearby.

This is a planned training exercise and NOT a real emergency.

Exercises like this allow our police officers, firefighters, dispatchers, schools, and partner agencies to train together before an emergency ever happens.
