It was great spending time with Congressman Rob Menendez and Mayor Albio Sires at the West New York Annual Seniors Halloween Party. These gentlemen have a long history of fighting for our community - both in Congress and at the local level. Residents of Hudson County are safer because of their hard work and dedication.

What a wonderful afternoon celebrating Halloween with our seniors in West New York. Mayor Albio Sires and the Board of Commissioners put together a great event, and it was nice to spend time with everyone who came out.

Thank you to all the seniors who joined us and made the day special. It is always good to come together as a community and share a few laughs.
Happy Halloween.

Child care costs are one of the biggest pressures on working families in North Bergen and across New Jersey.

Yesterday I was in Trenton for the joint hearing on the affordability, accessibility, and stability of our child care system.

Families need real options they can afford, and the people who provide care need support that keeps them in the field. I was glad to be part of the discussion and to hear directly from providers, educators, and advocates.

This is the work that matters for the people we represent. If you have a story about what child care looks like for your family, call or text me anytime: (201) 600-6909

I received this note from Amber Concepcion, a Special Olympics New Jersey athlete from Secaucus. She wrote on behalf of her fellow athletes to thank me for supporting their training, competitions, and leadership opportunities.

It is really nice to hear from her. These athletes work hard and show up with so much heart. Knowing that the support helps them compete and grow is the most important part of public service.

Thank you for writing, Amber. It made my day.

I want to recognize Bob Walden for the years of hard work and integrity he has shown on the Braddock Park preschool issue.

For a long time he has pressed for answers on how those trailers were placed in the park, how long they stayed there, and whether the rules were followed. He has done it as a resident who cares about the park and about the children who were in those classrooms. That kind of persistence and attention to the public record is rare.

I am grateful to Bob. Our community is a better place because of his work for the greater good.

Hudson TV received the following Letter to the Editor from North Bergen, N.J., resident Robert Walden, founder of the Save Braddock Park-Safe Schools…

North Bergen residents deserve an open process — not a family handoff.

Mayor Sacco is stepping down. The remaining commissioners have already decided Hugo Cabrera will be mayor and that Nick Sacco Jr. will take the open seat.

No public notice. No invitation for other residents to express interest. Just a decision made behind closed doors and then announced as done.

State law allows any North Bergen resident to be considered for that vacancy. They chose not to do that.

I wrote about why this matters, especially when taxes, rents, and now sewer rates keep going up. The people who live here should have a real chance to be part of the conversation — not just the people who already hold power.

Op-Ed: Wainstein gives his take on the impending retirement of North Bergen Mayor Sacco and his commissioner seat likely going to his son.
