On Wednesday, a few of us from South Summit attended a Crisis Intervention Team training specific to the role of dispatchers, sponsored by National Center for Policing Innovation and hosted by Summit Emergency Communications Center.

All of our callers to SSDC deserve to be treated with respect, patience, and empathy. We as dispatchers are the FIRST first responders, and we want you to hear a calm, caring voice when you are having what, in that moment, is your worst day ever. A crisis can be different for each person, and we are NOT here to judge, shame, or minimize. We are here to get you the help and resources you need at the time, and to give you the hope that things CAN get better 🫶

Mental, emotional, and physical wellness matters for our entire team as well. Check on each other. Show you care. Take time out for YOU. Sleep well, eat better, and get some physical activity most days. We need to take care of ourselves before we can effectively take care of others 💛

🚨 SAFETY SATURDAY | Teach Them Early

Does your child know what to do in an emergency?

Take a few minutes today to make sure they know:

☎️ How to call 911 (tel:911)
👤 Their first and last name
🏠 Their home address
📱 A parent’s or guardian’s name

Most importantly, teach them not to be afraid of the voice on the other end of the phone.

If they ever need us, we’ll be ready to help. 💛

A five-minute conversation today could make a lifesaving difference tomorrow.

A special THANK YOU to Officer Klapp & his wife for letting us post their handsome little man💙

💛🎧 FEEL-GOOD FRIDAY | Making a Difference, One Call at a Time!

Not every superhero wears a cape. Some wear headsets, some wear badges, and some arrive with flashing lights! 🚓🚒🚑

Every day, our 911 dispatchers have the privilege of being part of something bigger than themselves.

📞 A reassuring voice during a frightening moment.

💛 A little compassion when someone needs it most.

🎧 A calm presence in the middle of chaos.

🚨 A team working together to get help where it’s needed.

Sometimes, making a difference doesn’t require a grand gesture. Sometimes, it’s simply answering the phone, listening, and reminding someone that help is on the way.

The best part of what we do? Knowing that even on the hardest days, we have the opportunity to make someone’s day a little better.

💛 Small moments. Big impacts. One call at a time.

✨ Happy Feel-Good Friday from your 911 Communications Center!

Why We Ask Wednesday🤔

When we ask questions during an emergency, we’re not trying to slow things down—we’re trying to get responders the information they need.

📍 Where are you?
🚨 What happened?
👥 Who is involved?
⚠️ Is anyone in immediate danger?

Even when it feels like we’re asking a lot, keep talking to us and follow the dispatcher’s instructions.

Behind every question is a reason.

💛 We’re listening. We’re working. We’re getting you help.
