For over 230 years, Landmarks for Families has cultivated thriving children and families by teaching, Our Mission: To cultivate thriving children and families.

Landmarks for Families, formerly Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC), is a 501(C)3
nonprofit supporting children and families in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. For more
than 230 years, our organization has evolved to meet our community’s needs and provides
holistic residential and family programs in safe environments that empower those we serve
to find a new, hopeful direction. Our Vision: Our vision is that all children will have loving and stable families and a nurturing
community empowering them to lead successful lives. Due to the nature of our work and our clientele, Landmarks for Families upholds strict
community guidelines for posting and commenting on all of our social media channels.

or current) will be immediately removed from our page unless it is posted by a current

💙 𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗨𝗽

Whether the job calls for paintbrushes, moving boxes or rearranging furniture, the team at 𝗖𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗼 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 repeatedly demonstrates its willingness to show up and help—regardless of the task.

During their latest visit, Cummins volunteers painted the kitchen and dining room in our cottage serving high school-age youth. They also moved furniture to create greater access to recreational activities and helped set up a classroom for our expanding microschool.

Each project helps us create more welcoming, functional spaces where young people can live, learn and grow.

💡 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄?

In 1877, the Charleston Orphan House—now Landmarks for Families—opened the first kindergarten in South Carolina and one of the first in the nation! 📚🧸

Long before kindergarten became a standard part of childhood, our organization recognized the importance of giving young children a strong start through education, structure and care.

Nearly 150 years later, that commitment continues. Landmarks still helps children, youth and families learn, grow and build stronger futures—because meeting the needs of our community has always been part of our history.

From introducing kindergarten to South Carolina to cultivating thriving children and families today, innovation is part of our legacy.

Landmarks for Families is seeking a volunteer to teach our residents how to use a 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲. From learning the basics to completing fun projects, this is an opportunity to help young people build creativity, confidence and practical skills.

We have the 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲. We just need someone willing to share their time and talent!

Landmarks for Families is hiring 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳—called Family Teachers within our residential programs—for second and third shifts.

This is not a classroom teaching position. Our Family Teachers work directly with young people in residential care, creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment where they can heal, learn, and grow.

In this role, you will:

• Provide direct supervision and support
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor
• Help youth develop social, self-help, and independent-living skills
• Support daily routines, activities, schoolwork, and household responsibilities
• Use a trauma-informed approach to build trust and encourage positive growth

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: High school diploma

Applicants must also be at least 23 years old, have a valid South Carolina driver’s license and good driving record, and successfully complete required background checks and drug screening.
