Small changes at an intersection can make a big difference. 🚦

Improvements like turn lanes, traffic signal upgrades, dedicated left-turn phases, and better pedestrian crossings can help reduce delays, improve safety, and keep traffic moving. And, because they're targeted improvements, they can often be completed more quickly than major road projects.

The proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax includes $115 million over 25 years for intersection safety, supporting improvements at intersections across the county.

View the Project Map at CharlestonTransportation.com to learn more about the proposed intersection improvements.

REMINDER: River Road will close tonight at 7 PM for a final weekend push to get the new roundabout at Main, River, and Chisolm roads ready for traffic. During the closure, drivers who typically use River Road to access the Limehouse Bridge should detour via Old Pond Road to Main Road.

Crews will be working through the weekend, with the new roundabout scheduled to open Monday morning at 6 AM.

Thanks for your patience as we work to bring this major improvement to the Main Road corridor!

The proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax includes $25 million over 25 years for traffic signal optimization and related technology improvements.

So, what does that mean? Traffic signal optimization helps traffic lights work smarter together. Engineers use traffic data to adjust signal timing and coordinate lights along busy corridors so traffic can move more smoothly.

That can mean fewer unnecessary stops, more efficient travel on existing roads, and a transportation network that better adapts to changing traffic conditions throughout the day. 🚦

Since 2004, the Transportation Sales Tax has helped fund 895 miles of resurfacing and local road paving across Charleston County. 🚗

The proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax includes $390 million over 25 years for pavement management, and would use road condition data to help determine when a road needs preservation, rehabilitation, or reconstruction.

By addressing roads while they’re still in good to fair condition, pavement management can help extend the life of existing roads and reduce the need for more costly reconstruction later on.
