A heat advisory is in effect for Warren County on Friday, with temperatures expected to rise into the 90s.

That can be dangerous for the elderly and those battling health conditions, and New York State has released its list of cooling centers/clean air centers for this year. 14 have been designated in Warren County, from Glens Falls to Hague.

This list was put together with input from Warren County NY Public Health and Warren County Office of Emergency Services.

These are locations where folks can go to get out of the heat while these facilities are open. Please call ahead if you decide you need to cool off, and if you are concerned about heat stroke or other illness, call 911.

Here are the cooling centers in Warren County: (please call ahead to verify they are open)

More than 350,000 EMS-assessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the U.S. each year, and according to the American Heart Association, about 90% are fatal. However, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.

Our former LifeNet of New York patient, Tom Williams, knows this firsthand.

While competing in the Musselman Half Ironman triathlon in Geneva, NY, Tom suffered a cardiac arrest. His wife, Hillary, immediately began CPR with the help of another bystander until fellow racers and EMS crews arrived. Because of the severity of his condition, the LifeNet of New York team transported Tom to a critical care hospital for advanced care.

Tom’s story highlights the importance of CPR training and quick action. It can save a life, and possibly the life of someone you love.

In NY every ambulance service must operate under the authority of a physician known as a Medical Director. These doctors help develop treatment protocols, review patient care, provide training, and authorize EMTs to perform advanced lifesaving skills in the field.

EMS providers work under the guidance of their Medical Director every day , even when that doctor is miles away from the ambulance.

At Johnsburg EMS we are lucky to have Dr. Katz on our team! Dr. Katz works with our crews to ensure our patients receive the best care when they need it most.
