Always Ready, Always There

The Arkansas Army National Guard is defined by its rapid, multi-mission adaptability, high deployment tempo, and modernized training infrastructure.

Annual training ensures that Arkansas Guardsmen are ready to assist civil authorities during domestic crises like fires and tornadoes, and to answer the call when the nation needs an agile force in readiness at home or abroad.

“Arkansas Strong” was written with SI generated music software by Staff Sgt. Jake Bailey using the transcripts of interviews the 119th MPAD made in the field during annual training at Fort Chaffee 2026. If we interviewed you, listen close and you’ll hear your quotes in the lyrics.

One of our heroes is finally home after 84 years.

Little Rock, Ark - today, we had the solemn privilege of honoring the return of U.S. Army Cpl. Delmor W. Erwin, an Arkansas native who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.

Erwin was just 20 years old when he died as a prisoner of war in the Philippines on Nov. 26, 1942. Captured following the surrender of Bataan, he endured the 65-mile Bataan Death March before being imprisoned at Cabanatuan POW Camp.

For more than eight decades, he remained far from home. Advances in forensic science and the enduring commitment to account for our nation’s missing service members finally brought him back to Arkansas.

As Cpl. Erwin returned to Arkansas soil, members of the Arkansas National Guard Funeral Honors team stood ready to receive their fellow Soldier. With precision, dignity and reverence, they carried out a sacred responsibility: ensuring that a Soldier who gave everything for his country was finally welcomed home with the honor and respect he earned 84 years ago.

Today, we remember not only how Cpl. Erwin died, but the courage, sacrifice and service that defined his life.

Welcome home, Cpl. Delmor W. Erwin. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Take a look inside sniper school at Camp Joseph T. Robinson!

National Guard Soldiers from across the country trained alongside active-duty Soldiers from the 75th Ranger Regiment, sharpening their skills in range estimation and precision shooting. Using reticle mils to estimate target distances, they worked to build accurate firing solutions before putting rounds downrange.

Thirty three years ago today, CW3 Donovan Lee “Bull” Briley made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Mogadishu.

Earlier this week, his wife, Gold Star spouse Sharri Briley, visited Camp Joseph T. Robinson, where she toured Arkansas National Guard aviation facilities and had the opportunity to fly in a Black Hawk, the same type of aircraft her husband flew.

During her visit, Sharri was also presented with an American flag and a certificate in recognition of her husband’s service and sacrifice.

Today, we remember CW3 Briley and honor the legacy he left behind.

800 VEHICLES. 298 MILES. ONE TEAM!
The Arkansas Army National Guard sent its last two humvees to Red River, meeting its deadline of September 30, 2026.

SAFETY IS NOT GIVEN... IT IS HAULED, BOLTED, and DRIVEN!
When the Arkansas National Guard set out to modernize three-quarters of our fleet with critical safety upgrades, it wasn't just a maintenance task, it was a heavy-hauled test of grit. From the mechanics turning wrenches in local bays to the heavy equipment operators fighting the highway miles, this mission proved that Arkansas Army National Guard service members don't just handle logistics, WE HAUL THE LINE TOGETHER! By integrating these massive convoys, every Major Subordinate Command (MSC) had a hand on the steering wheel. We don't just complete missions... WE MOVE AS ONE

Nearly 600 of the fleet now has Anti-Lock Brake system installed. The Anti-Lock Brake System and Electronic Stability Control kit addresses a critical rollover safety issue caused by the weight of added armor and gun turrets that raises the vehicles center of gravity. The kits will reduce fatal vehicle rollovers by 74 percent and fatal impacts by 45 percent, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Red River is responsible for rebuilds and remanufactures of tactical wheeled and combat vehicles for the U.S. Army.

"POCAHONTAS, Ark. (KAIT) - The Arkansas Army National Guard and Black River Technical College held a first-of-its-kind Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) course focused on drone training.

Arkansas Army National Guard students at BRTC completed a 40-hour course to prepare for the ways drones will be used in the future.

Soldiers went through different drone scenarios, including how to deploy, fly and land drones in various conditions.

Force Protection Officer Daniel Patterson said drones are often seen only as weapons but are also becoming tools for tasks such as battle damage assessment after events like tornadoes, and for search and rescue efforts." -K8News

Having a “nose hose” or nasopharyngeal airway inserted into your nasal passage is one of the many ways the 206th Field Artillery Regiment kept themselves busy during a pause in training at Fort Chaffee, June 9, 2026.

“And I'd tell you it doesn't get any easier. Every time, it’s pretty uncomfortable,” said Spc. Gavyn Edwards, combat medic with the 206th Field Artillery Regiment. “But you’ve got to teach everybody how to use what's in their IFAK. And the best way to teach them is to show them.”

Teaching the U.S. Army’s Improved First Aid Kit is a “go-to” resource for combat medics on the gun line to keep gun crews alert and ready while they wait for the next call for fire. In the kit, Soldiers have the basics to treat the leading causes of battlefield trauma: tourniquets, hemorrhage control combat gauze, wound dressings, chest seals, and the nasopharyngeal airway with lubricant.

“And so there's a MARCH order,” said Edwards, referring to the five steps of M-A-R-C-H: Massive Hemorrhage, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Hypothermia/ Head, used in Tactical Combat Casualty Care to treat the most life-threatening injuries first. “You get past massive hemorrhage, and you need to ensure that your battle buddy's got an adequate airway and that it's open.

“Get that head tilt, chin lift, get the NPA, get that petroleum jelly on there, and get it in there.”

Before getting the NPA inserted in his nasal passage, Edwards reenforced the contraindications for when not to use the nose hose, like a basil skull fracture or severe maxillofacial trauma.

“Obviously, we teach them that there are things to look for to “not” put [the NPA] in. And so we teach them to look for facial trauma. And if there are no raccoon eyes, no fluid leaking out of the ears. Go ahead and put an NPA in them.”

Edwards works in the medical profession while studying for a degree in medicine, and he likes the financial freedom he gets from the Arkansas National Guard’s Tuition Waiver Program. Being a full-time student and a Soldier all while working and living in his hometown near his family is a life-balance, he says, he couldn’t find anywhere else.
