This October, North Myrtle Beach Ocean Rescue is proud to fly pink flags at select beach accesses in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
These flags serve as a reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection, and supporting those affected by this disease. We also want to honor the survivors, remember those we have lost, and stand alongside the individuals and families who continue to face breast cancer.

Think pink. Spread awareness. Support the fight.

On 9/11/2001, our current Employee Liaison, Marco, was off duty. As a Long Beach firefighter at that time, he was assigned to Truck Company 72. He worked alongside hundreds of firefighters who responded to Ground Zero that day and in the days after. He went on to retire after 32 years in the fire service. We thank Marco for his service and we’ll never forget the 412 first responders that died on that day while trying to help others.

Closing out our Lifeguard of the Week series for the 2026 season with Will Sellers! 🌊
Will is an 8th-year guard who spends his days at Tower 1(The point), one of the more challenging areas of our beach due to constantly changing tides, currents, and inlet conditions. His experience, awareness, and ability to stay on top of a demanding stretch of water make him someone we’re proud to recognize. Congratulations, Will, and thank you for another great season!

⚠️Hog Inlet is an area where conditions are constantly changing. Shifting sandbars, shallow water, strong currents, and breaking waves can make navigation around The Point unpredictable.

Sandbars can move and water depths can change significantly with the tide, meaning a route that was clear before may not be safe today.

Yesterday’s boating incident is an important reminder to know the tide, watch your depth, stay aware of shifting sandbars, and use caution when navigating Hog Inlet.

Second up for our Lifeguard of the Week is David Anderson!
Dave is a 6th year guard who brings years of experience, reliability, and a strong work ethic to the beach every day. His experience and steady presence make him someone both guards and supervisors can always count on. We’re lucky to have him as part of the NMBOR crew. Congratulations, Dave! 👏🏼

We had THREE Lifeguards of the Week selected last week for their outstanding work ethic, and Juan is first up!
Juan is a first year guard who is always friendly, hardworking, and ready to bring some great energy to the beach. And if he’s not on the stand, there’s a good chance you’ll catch him out getting some miles in 🏃‍♂️ Congrats, Juan! 👏🏼

Labor Day Weekend is here! 🇺🇸
We’re flying PURPLE FLAGS along the beach due to jellyfish in the water. 🪼 If you get stung, rinse the area, apply heat or an ice pack for pain relief, and remember the discomfort will typically improve with time.

As always, swim near a lifeguard, stay aware of ocean conditions, stay hydrated, and keep a close eye on children in and around the water.

Enjoy the long weekend, stay safe, and look for the purple flags before you hit the water! 🛟

Beach umbrellas can become dangerous quickly when the wind picks up!

Take a few extra minutes to secure yours properly…..dig deep, pack the sand tight, and always give it a quick check before settling in.🏖️
