Our firefighters had a great time welcoming local high school students to the firehouse today!

Students had the opportunity to learn about what we do every day, tour the firehouse and apparatus, check out some of our equipment, and hear firsthand what a career in the fire service and emergency medical services is all about.

We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with young people in our community, answer their questions, and give them a closer look at the many roles and responsibilities of our firefighters and EMTs.

Thanks for stopping by — we hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we did! 🚒🔥🚑

🔥 Fire Prevention Month is here! 🚒

Throughout the month of October, members of the North Plainfield Fire Department will be out in our schools and community teaching children about the importance of fire safety and prevention.

Our firefighters are talking with students about smoke alarms, having a home escape plan, Stop, Drop & Roll, calling 9-1-1, and what firefighters look and sound like when wearing their protective gear. Of course, getting an up-close look at the fire trucks is always a favorite!

Teaching fire safety at a young age can make a lifelong difference, and we’re excited to spend the month meeting so many of North Plainfield’s students.

Today, members of the North Plainfield Fire Department joined our community in a memorial ceremony honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken that day, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all those whose lives were forever changed in the days and years that followed.

As firefighters, police officers and EMTs, we carry a special responsibility to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice displayed on September 11th. We will continue to tell their stories, honor their legacy, and ensure that future generations understand the meaning of Never Forget.

2026 Annual Hydrant Testing

You may see North Plainfield firefighters out around town over the next several weeks conducting our annual fire hydrant detail.

From August 13 through October 3, our crews will be testing hydrants throughout the Borough.

What are we checking?

• Hydrants open and close properly
• Hydrants drain properly after use
• Adequate water flow
• Maintenance or repair needs
• Overall condition and readiness

Why do we do it?

Regular testing helps us identify problems before an emergency and ensures our firefighters have a reliable water supply when it matters most.

A quick note for residents:

While hydrants are being operated, you may occasionally notice temporary water discoloration as sediment in the water mains is stirred up. If this happens, running your cold water for a few minutes will typically help it clear.

So if you see our crews out testing hydrants over the next several weeks, now you know what we’re up to.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this important annual detail.

Our probationary firefighters are hard at work this week, continuing their training before being assigned to their platoons.

From reviewing the fundamentals to hands-on drills, each day is focused on building the skills, confidence, and teamwork needed on the job.

In the fire service, the training never stops. Every drill, every repetition, and every lesson helps prepare our members for the moment they’re needed most.

Please join us in welcoming our two newest members to the North Plainfield Fire Department, Firefighter Brian Marshall and Firefighter Nicholas Heuschkel.

Brian and Nicholas have officially begun their careers with the department and will soon begin the next phase of their training as they prepare to serve the residents and visitors of North Plainfield.

Congratulations to both of you on the start of this exciting journey. We wish you success and look forward to watching you grow as firefighters and members of our department.

Welcome to the NPFD family!
