Firefighters found a room and contents fire which was quickly extinguished with no extension past the room of origin. North Reading Engine 3 & Ladder 1 responded with on-duty personnel and off duty members recalled on the all tone responded with Engines 2 and 1 and Ambulance 2, as well as C1, C2 and L5. Assisting on scene were engines from Middleton and Reading, a Lynnfield Rescue and Rehab 5. Covering the town during the fire were engines from Andover and Wakefield. North Reading Firefighters Local 1857 was recently informed that Town of North Reading has accepted a federal grant from FEMA through the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) program.

This grant will allow the North Reading Fire Department to increase staffing to eight firefighters per shift, marking another significant step forward in strengthening our department’s ability to serve the community.

This increase builds upon the staffing improvements we have seen over the past several years and represents an important investment in both public safety and firefighter safety. Having additional personnel available allows us to more effectively staff our fire apparatus and ambulances, improving our ability to respond to emergencies safely and efficiently.

As North Reading continues to grow, so too does the demand for Fire and EMS services. Our emergency call volume continues to increase, and ensuring that adequate personnel are available to respond is essential to meeting the needs of our community. Whether responding to a structure fire, a medical emergency, or any of the countless other situations we encounter, having sufficient staffing during those critical initial minutes can make a significant difference.

We would like to express our appreciation to Chief Stats, Town Administration, and Select Board for their continued commitment to strengthening public safety in North Reading. Their efforts and support have been instrumental in making these improvements possible.

Above all, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the residents of North Reading for their continued trust and support. We recognize that maintaining and improving essential public services requires an ongoing commitment from the entire community, and we do not take that support for granted.

It remains our greatest privilege to serve and protect the residents of North Reading. Your continued support allows us to better fulfill that responsibility, and we remain committed to providing the highest level of Fire and EMS services possible.

As always, thank you and stay safe.

Last night just after 11pm North Reading Fire was dispatched to the report of a car accident in the area of 287 Elm St. Upon arrival of Engine 2 it was confirmed that a single vehicle had rolled over and that the operator was trapped. North Readings ambulance was already occupied on another medical call that had come in before this MVA so a mutual aid ambulance was dispatched from Middleton. After approximately 15 minutes of extrication using the patient was freed from the vehicle and transported by Middleton to an area hospital.
