𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲:
🔥 Smoke detectors: Put one on every floor, in hallways and in every bedroom. Test them monthly, change batteries when the clocks change and replace detectors every 10 years.
🚪 Sleep with bedroom doors closed. It gives you the best chance to survive a fire.
💨 Carbon monoxide detectors: Install in the basement, on the first floor and in the hallway outside bedrooms. Have your furnace, water heater and other gas appliances serviced every year.
🔋 Lithium-ion batteries: Use the charger that came with your device and skip the knockoffs. If a battery swells or gets hot, move it outside onto a hard surface and call the Fire Department. Never toss batteries in the trash. Lorain County Solid Waste offers battery recycling.
🔌 Extension cords are for temporary use only, not for appliances. Use heavy-duty cords and UL-listed surge protectors, and don’t plug them into each other.
🍳 Never leave cooking unattended.
🏠 Practice a fire drill. Know two ways out of every bedroom and pick a meeting spot outside.
🧯 Keep at least one fire extinguisher in your home and check the expiration date.
𝗖𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿? Call NRFD. Programs exist for detector installation and battery changes.
Mayor Corcoran shared that the 2027 budget process is underway, with departments now presenting to the Mayor before Council review begins in late November. He mentioned TRAINFO as one way the City is managing rail impacts on our roads. The system alerts first responders when trains are blocking crossings so they can take the fastest route, which matters more as rail traffic increases. He also shared that NOACA has earmarked about $2.5 million for future improvements to Root Road and Stoney Ridge Road. Find the latest on road and construction projects on our website. Thanks for the great questions!
