🚒 WE PASSED!!! 💦✅

Engine 1 and Engine 3 both passed their annual pump tests! 🎉

Beyond being required by national standards, these tests are a critical part of ensuring our apparatus are ready when our community needs us most.

Having an independent, third-party vendor thoroughly inspect and test our pumps helps verify that our engines are ready to deliver the water and performance needed to tackle the fires we respond to.

Two engines tested. Two engines passed. Ready to answer the call! 🔥🚒 Thank you, W.D. Perkins Fire Pump Specialist

🎃🚒 Firefighter Frankenstein had a frighteningly good time at Northborough’s Annual Trunk-or-Treat! 👻🍬

While FF Frankie may only grunt, our other firefighters loved seeing all the creative costumes, handing out candy, and chatting with so many members of our amazing community. 🧡🖤

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this annual event so much fun!

👨‍🚒🔥 WELCOME ABOARD — OFFICIALLY! 👨‍🚒🔥

Last night, our two newest firefighters, Zach Ashman (left) and Drew Gage (right), were officially sworn in by our Town Clerk during the Select Board meeting!

Surrounded by the solidarity and support of their fellow brother and sister firefighters, Zach was joined by his wife, Rebecca, and baby girl, Audrey. Drew was supported by his wife, Alyssa, his mom, Diane, and his dad, Chris.

Becoming a firefighter is more than starting a new job — it’s joining a family, embracing a commitment to serve, and becoming part of something bigger than yourself.

Please join us in congratulating Zach and Drew as they begin this exciting new chapter with the Northborough Fire Department! We’re proud to have you both on the team and look forward to the great things ahead.

🚒 💦 Ever Wonder Why Firefighters Call Hydrants “Plugs”? It’s a tradition that goes back hundreds of years!

Before modern fire hydrants, some municipal water systems were made from hollow wooden logs. When a fire broke out, firefighters would cut a hole into the wooden pipe to access the water. Once the fire was out, they plugged the hole.

If another fire occurred nearby, firefighters could remove the plug and access the water again. The order to “find the nearest plug” became part of the fire service vocabulary.

🔥 A little piece of fire service history that lives on today.

🔥 October is Fire Prevention Month! 🔥

This year’s national focus is Lithium-Ion Battery Safety! 🔋

Rechargeable batteries are everywhere 📱— in our phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, and countless other devices. In fact, you probably have one in your hand right now!

While these batteries are generally safe when used properly, they can fail, overheat, catch fire, or even explode, creating serious fire and health hazards.

The good news? There are simple steps you can take to reduce these risks and protect yourself, your family, and your home!

📱🔋 We encourage everyone to learn more about lithium-ion battery safety through these resources:

Last night, surrounded by his family, friends, members of his former department, the franklin_fire_department, and members of his new department — us — Chief Darling was officially sworn in as the Fire Chief of the Town of Northborough MA by Town Clerk, Daymian Bartek.

Although last night marked only his third day on the job, Chief Darling’s leadership and energy are already clear, and we’re excited about what’s ahead for the Northborough Fire Department and our community.
