Northbrook School District 28 About Our District
Northbrook School District 28 is located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Chicago, and about four miles west of Lake Michigan.

Northbrook School District 28 is a public PK-8 school district serving students across four distinguished schools near the heart of downtown Northbrook, IL. 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙. 🌎 We are a public K-8 elementary school district with four distinguished schools, serving the northeastern portion of Northbrook. Our district’s mission is “to provide a teaching, learning, and caring environment where all children benefit from a commitment to excellence.” Our goal is to provide students with a strong academic and social-emotional foundation, as well as an appreciation for the value of learning and of helping others. Our students consistently score well above average on local and state assessments, and we are always looking to improve, whether we are implementing a comprehensive literacy initiative, updating our social studies curriculum to emphasize thematic critical thinking, or offering our students the opportunity to learn a world language starting in first grade. School District 28 is committed to enhancing and supporting student growth and development by providing challenging and diversified experiences for all students.

That “WOW!” moment when science takes flight! Greenbriar 3rd graders recently built and tested their own model gliders as part of our hands-on STEM program, Project Lead the Way (PLTW). They learned basic principles like balance, motion, and the four main forces of flight: lift, weight, thrust, and drag.

We’ll be cheering on NBJH front office extraordinaire Grace Lombardo this weekend as she runs the Chicago Marathon! A two-time breast cancer survivor, Grace is running to raise money for breast cancer research. Today, the entire NBJH staff wore pink and gave her pink flowers to show their support. 💕🏃🏻‍♀️

Some lucky Meadowbrook students walked through the construction site of the new Meadowbrook School this week- their raffle prize from the Meadowbrook back to school bash!

The students had the opportunity to ask the construction crew questions and learn about the many different careers that play a role in bringing a large-scale project like this to life.

This week's beautiful weather has made it the perfect time for Meadowbrook 1st graders' annual visit to the NBJH organic garden, where they team up with 8th graders to practice being scientists! ☀️ 🔍

The students explore living things by observing them up close and from a distance, focusing on details like textures and shapes. First graders identify plants and insects, while their 8th-grade mentors guide them in documenting their findings through scientific drawings in their notebooks.
