Carrolltown and Patton are now connected by the first walking and biking trail of its kind.

The ribbon was cut Friday on the Firefighters Memorial Trail, which honors the courage, service, and sacrifice of our first responders.

The trail runs from Sunset Road in Carrolltown, through the Fire School Academy grounds and on to Patton, just short of three miles in length.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has placed a radar-controlled speed display board on Route 53 in Bigler Township in the community of Madera. It is intended to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit and reduce speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

The board faces southbound traffic at the intersection of Vulcan Road on a section of Route 53 with a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour. The board utilizes radar to determine the speed of oncoming traffic and posts them to the lighted section of the sign.

The board will remain in this location for 4-6 weeks.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is about to start making repairs to the Route 879 bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and RJ Corman Railroad in Lawrence Township.

Starting this Wednesday, Sept. 30, or Thursday, Oct. 1, westbound traffic heading toward Curwensville will see the only impacts as the turning lane onto the Clearfield-Philipsburg off-ramp will close. The ramp itself will still be accessible at the western most side of the bridge.

PennDOT expects the work to be completed before the end of next month.

Now that we're into autumn, let's think winter for a moment...

Wreaths Across America has been honoring our country’s veterans since 1992, and volunteers play a huge role in making this happen. More than three million sponsored veterans' wreaths were placed on headstones of our nation's service members last year at more than 4,900 locations across the country.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, 14 cemeteries in Cambria and Clearfield counties - including Clearfield, Coalport, Nicktown and Ramey - will be participating in this tremendous event to honor our war dead.

If you are interested in volunteering to lay a wreath, please use the link below and click on the "Volunteer" button to find a participating cemetery near you.
