🔥 Annual Live Burn 🔥

This past weekend, members of Northfield Fire participated in our annual live burn at the Litchfield County Regional Fire School in Torrington.

Members broke into groups to work through multiple training scenarios, focusing on hose advancement to different areas of a structure, Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations, ladder work, search and rescue, and radio communications.

training like this helps our members sharpen their skills, work together, and stay prepared to serve our community when emergencies happen. 🚒

🔥 Fire Prevention Week recap 🔥

Last week our members went to the different schools in the area and spoke to the students and teachers about fire safety!

Now is a great time to review your home's fire safety plan. As we head into the colder months, keep these important fire safety tips in mind!

🔹Family fire escape plan: Talk with your children about how to call 911, practice your family's fire escape plan, and establish a designated outdoor meeting place a safe distance from your home.

🔹Always plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or power strip.

🔹 Have your chimney inspected and cleaned regularly to reduce the risk of a chimney fire.

🔹 Have your furnace professionally inspected and serviced before the heating season.

🔹 Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms: Test your alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed.

Yesterday, Northfield Fire was dispatched to Thomaston for mutual aid on a reported possible structure fire at the Wyco Finishing Factory on Waterbury Road.

A full crew responded in Engine 1. Upon arrival, our driver secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant for Thomaston Engine 2, while our crew of four interior firefighters was sent to the roof to assist with operations.

Great job by everyone involved, and thank you to all the departments who worked together on the scene.

Yesterday, after our family breakfast, a small group loaded up Engine 3 and Unity 4 and headed over to Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department for their first-ever Nonvention Firemen’s Parade!

While the weather wasn’t perfect, it didn’t stop everyone from having a great time. We’re also excited to bring home the award for “Most Creative Line of March!”

A huge thank you to Bethlehem Fire for coming up with this event and hosting such a fun day for everyone. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
